    Cheap budget computer

Looking for advice on building a comp budget is around $500 USD and I need a copy of windows so its really around 400ish =( These are the part I came up with
    • CPU AMD A8-3850 $135 on Amazon.com
    • Motherboard ASRock A75M-HVS $69.99 on Newegg.com
    • Memory G.SKILL Sniper Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 $69.99 on Newegg
    • Case Xion XON-180 $34.99 on Newegg
    • Power Supply CORSAIR Builder Series CX500 $59.99 on Newegg
    • Hard Drive Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 ST3500413AS 500GB $39.99 on Newegg

    • + Windows 7 64bit $100

So the total is $510. Is this computer decent for its price?

You will get a lot more for your money if you save another ~$200 or so.

It's not bad... but which chaud said is very true. Another $200 could get you a ton more performance for gaming.

You can easily drop down to 4GB ram to cut down the cost a bit.

That's not bad at all. Should be able to max out WoW/D3... would have to reduce settings for intense games like skyrim/bf3 but they'd be playable.
8gb is a bit much for a budget build like that... might be able to improve something more important if you dropped to 4gb.

    All from Newegg

$36 NZXT GAMMA Classic Series GAMA-001BK Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
    $40 HITACHI HDS721050CLA362 (0F10381) 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive
    $69 SAPPHIRE 100287VGAL Radeon HD 5670 (Redwood) 512MB 128-bit DDR5
    $45 Antec NEO ECO 400C 400W Continuous Power ATX12V 2.3 / EPS12V 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Power Supply
    $40 G.SKILL Value Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666)
$55 ASRock H61M-VS LGA 1155 Intel H61 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard
    $125 Intel Core i3-2100 Sandy Bridge 3.1GHz LGA 1155 65W
    $100 Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit - OEM

    Total: $512

This is way better than the AMD build you had in OP. I3-2100 + 5670 will hands down smash an A8-3850 in games and most desktop uses too. I didn't include a optical since your build didn't. As others have said, if you could up your budget to $620-$650, you can get a lot more.

To be perfectly fair, he could also drop for the Corsair CX430, since the HD 6770 should only require a single 6pin.

Which is entirely possible if he's a student, where it tends to be free through MSDNAA. He hasn't really mentioned.

Additionally, he looked into a $600 build just earlier.

    From the OP:
    ....+ Windows 7 64bit $100

This implies he doesn't have access to the discounted price.

Implications are, however, not necessarily the truth. He may have very well simple been unaware of MSDNAA. I certainly was for a while. There's also a multitude of other options, such as through workplace.

Additionally, as I added a little too late to my first post: He also looked at a $600 build. This suggests he can flex to some degree.

Missed the part where he said he could go up to $600ish. Yeah in that case your build is really solid.
