Nope, the only thing even close was William the Conqueror, who wasn't French! People just confuse the fact that he owned a part of France before he came to England with him being French.

Actually, almost every country that wasn't a colony teaches 'American English'. Especially in what you Euro-centrics consider the 'far-east'.

Trousers, most Swedes I know refer to them as pants, nearly got my GFs sister in trouble when she moved to England. She was an au pair and told her employer she just needed to change her pants cos they were wet, he thought she was just a bit wierd.

English is a linguistic slut and is kind of related a bit to everyone.

English grew up trying to be easy for the Vikings, the Danes, the Celts, the Anglo-Saxons and the Normans to understand. It's not her fault she became so easy =/
