    Trooper Question

I am looking to play a { DPS Trooper }...sorry I 4got the name. But after reading on the forums it appears that the { Tank Trooper } will use a rifle and the { DPS Trooper } will use a cannon. My question is: Does anyone know if the { DPS Trooper } only uses a cannon? Dont get me wrong I think the cannon looks cool, but I think shooting a rifle would be pretty cool to sometimes.

    Thanks,

The trooper has two advanced classes the Commando and Vanguard

The Commando advanced class does indeed use a ''cannon'' they are the DPS'ers they can also heal with medic tree. The Vanguard is the tanking advanced class they use the smaller rifles they can specialise in shields for tanking but they also have the shared ''assault'' tree for dps

Hmm thanks for the info. Wonder if the Vanguard assualt tree can hold their own with other DPS classes? I guess we will just have to wait and see.

Ya from what i can see the shared one for vanguard looks like your best bet for ranged fighting with rifles

Yeah the assault tree on official site says that it improves grenades and rifles/cannon....now does that mean they could keep up with a Commando using the Gunnery tree who knows..

Generally the developers have claimed that there will be a level DPS parity. What you can expect if anything is a vanguard DPS, much like a Jedi Guardian DPS, to be a bit less squishy than the alternative AC.

Its all a balance, like feral druids and boomkin druids. Both are DPS but over time and peoples playstyles will likely change what is "best" but typically all of them will be viable.

As for the OP if you want to be a tank you may be stuck with the cannon. Think of Trooper rifles as WoW wands, you arn't going to see much, if any tanking wands. least that is the way I see it.

Just like many of the Jedi Classes are narrowed down into using certain lightsabers. Sith assasins are the ones to use double bladed lightsabers while sorcerers may be limited to just single bladed sabers.

This is what seems to be implied by sources I have seen. It's like when you pick an advanced class your weapon proficiencies change. This may save them from having to make 100 double bladed lightsabers for DPS, then make the same 100 more for tanks, then do that again with 200 single bladed light sabers just so they have the option. It would be like WoW up-ing the amount of tanking bows just so tanks have the option of tanking full time with bows.

    This is mostly conjecture/reasoning though.

Well, at least is looking cool You can check http://www.wikiswtor.com/Trooper or http://www.oldrepublic.net/141-troop...-gameplay.html for more details, pictures and all that.
But from what ive heard, trooper and agent are not so easy to play classes, which is good tho

Every AC has at least 2 DPS trees, some have 2 DPS, 1 heal, some have 2 DPS 1 tank, some have 3 DPS... but they all have 2 DPS.

In the case of troopers one AC has heal + 2 DPS, the other ad tank + 2 DPS.. so if you don't like the cannon one, you can choose the other.

We can always hope that there wont be any support for a damage meter. : )

Pretty much impossible, even games that didn't allow addons, players found a way to parse damage meters through combat logs and 3rd party software. Push comes to shove, players as a whole want damage meters, which means, someone will find a way, no matter what Bioware does, and once they do, it will become available to the masses shortly after. That said, if Bioware allows addons (which they said they plan to), they aren't going to make any attempt to block the damage logs as that would make many many addons near impossible to create, not just damage meters.

In a way allowing meters is a good thing, as it forces the developers to address heavy imbalances as they are evident to the playerbase... they cant hide behind the crypticness of the information. Saying "I hope they don't have damage meters so, that if my Vanguard is terrible, DPS, no one will know!" is just silly, I'd much rather everyone know, so that Bioware has no choice but to fix it. If it comes down to a few percentage points... honestly if your guild doesn't bring you because of a theoretical few percentage points over another class, you have bigger issues. In WoW, no two classes are identical for theoretical, or practical damage, but people still bring the lower ones... tho most do expect you to choose the higher damage spec available to you if there is a notable DPS difference. (Vanguard is not a spec, it is a class... they have 2 DPS specs available to them, one of which is shared with the Commando)

    TL;DR version
Damage meters are one of the simplest addons to code, if Bioware is allowing addons, there will be damage meters.

Commando is the name you are forgetting. And yes, they CAN use rifles, however I am assuming that their DPS will be optimized to use the cannons.
