Last paintball question, I promise. Can i filled up my own compressed air tanks?

I decided that I'm getting a tippmann 98 custom. I read that they can run on compressed air with no modding needed. Since Im a member at our Fire dept, they will let me use their air compressor. My dad also has an air compressor at this auto shop. Can i fill my own tanks? Or do i need a special adapter or what? It would save me a lot of time sending my co2 tanks away to get them refilled.

You need a higher quality air and a higher pressure than what is provided with traditional compressors. Basically, for and HPA tank, you need the kind of air that would be used to fill scuba tanks. If you have a compressor that can do this or a spare tank that you can fill, you can buy an adapter to fill from either of those.

Not specifically this, as there are others, but you'll need something like THIS

Also, you can't use your CO2 tanks to fill this air. You need a HPA tank. Trust me when I say that it is better to not go cheap on a tank. Get a carbon fiber one that is at least a 68/4500. CF is more lightweight and a 3000 size tank can easily be blown through in a short period of time.

If you have more specific questions, there are several good community sites. Check out:

Look for an adapter and purchase a cylinder of CO2 from a restaurant supply company. Something like http://www.beergas.com/cylinder-packs maybe for use in Soda dispensers or cheap draft beer.

My dad has a rly big nice one. How much higher quality is needed than one that is used to fill up tired and such? And the one at my fire house is used to fill up our air tanks for on air breathing use.

That HPA tank is freaking expensive =O

The compressor that you use at the fire station to fill your air tanks is the kind that you need to have. The kind of compressor that fills a tire isn't a good enough quality of air or at a high enough pressure and will give you issues. A lot of people in small towns actually go to their fire stations and may or may not pay for a fill as there aren't PB shops in the area.

Yes, the CF 68/4500 tanks are expensive. If you see yourself actually getting in to the game and playing it for some time, get one of those. If this isn't something that you are all that serious about, a metal xx/3000 tank will suit you fine. It will be cheaper and heavier than even the larger version of a CF tank. They may be expensive, but they will last you for years if you buy a good tank.

Im just getting into the game ive gone once and it was rly expensive to rent the gun and use their facility. And I wanted one for practice shooting and stuff at home which is why im getting a good beginning gun (ie the 98 custom). What will the compressor my dad has do to the tank/gun if i did use it? Will it just not shoot as fast or damage the gun?

I'm not an expert on that as it is something I just completely avoided. I actually just got in to the game myself last year. The sport can be very, very expensive depending on your level of involvement.

As much as I would like to continue talking about this here, we don't really need a chat thread on the matter (and I'm at work). I would highly suggest visiting 98og.net and reading through their forums for a while. You can learn what a lot of the mistakes that new people make are and avoid them completely. You can also learn some tricks from the high-end players. Also, be sure to check out the B/S/T section on each of those forums. If you haven't bought a gun yet, you can most likely find something for a very good price used. (I would recommend a good A5 over a 98)

Anyways, I have to bow out for a bit and get some work done. If you have more questions, you can always PM me. I'll answer later.

    Best of luck.

What you are after is known as a DIN fitting. That is the fitting you need to directly fill your tank up

Also, unless your Compressor at home is rated to above 3000psi, it's no use using it. If it is, it'll be great.

But when I use scuba tanks for filling, just a simple DIN fitting works wonders.
