[Priest] Fix My DPS Thread

I need some tips. i just switched from disc to shadow on my priest. i play all healing classes, so i wanted some fun, my main's retri off spec doesn't amuse me so i chosed the priest. now i went to raid finder and well, i logged some fights, fights like ultraxion, zonozz and yorshaj, are what i wanted to show you on log but its corrupted, non the less i logged madness and i did 36k. i assume that is pretty low, so i need tips if there is anything i can do, or if u think its just my gear limit (yes am using tsunami for dpsing. ._.)

Hey guys, I kinda in a desperate situation here. Last night, after defeating Yor'sahj HC, we started to progress on Ultraxion HC. I did this fight on normal modes enough to know what to expect regarding my DPS, but yesterday was disappointingly bad. On normal I usually around the 32-33k mark, but yesterday I was struggling to get 28k. Our raid was melee-heavy, we didn't have any caster buffs, but still, this DPS is humiliating to say the least.
Looking at my DOT uptimes, they are quite decent, on fights where we failed because of the DPS, they were all 96%+, Mind Flay is 50+%, I use Mind Blast on cd, just like my DPS cd-s. I do exactly like I do in normal mode, and yet there's a 5k gap between the 2.

As for my gear, currently I'm reforged for Haste > Hit > Mastery > Crit for testing purposes, otherwise I run with Haste > Hit > Crit > Mastery since I still use the 2 piece t12 and the VPLC. For the other trinket slot, I tried both LFR Insignia of the Corrupted Mind and Bottled Wishes. I line up the bottled wishes with arcangel, and I refresh my dots every time the insignia procs (and right before it runs of for that matter).

My question is, is there something fundamentally wrong, or is it just a matter of fine tuning (pushing the dot uptime for example), and proper raid buffs?

I seemed to have actually gone down in DPS from a couple weeks ago, granted that was normal mode so there was more uptime then. I've got 4 piece now and I used it with shadowfiend and mindspike/mindblast twice in this fight you can see. Thing is instead of doing 32k with pretty much the same makeup as before now I'm doing 26-27... do you see anything going weird here? This is really odd. Haste threshold or something perhaps?

Self Buffed I have:
16.67 hit
15.26 mastery
17.35 crit
28.45 haste

Raid makeup includes: Mage, Ele Shaman, NO LOCK, NO BOOMKIN.

Assuming that you used the rotation all three times you popped AA (which I think you did looking at the number of times you cast MS) taking out the approximately 15 seconds (45 seconds total) for time spent doing that rotation the duration of the fight not using MB/MS spam is 3:49. So adjusted uptimes would be:

VT: 90.4%
DP: 88.6%
sw: p: 90.8%

Considering that when you stop doing this rotation your DoTs don't all immediately get reapplied I think that is pretty good. Probably could be a bit better (especially DP) but it also isn't awful.

I know there is scaling based on damage but that makes it even worse imo. Could an experienced shadow priest take a look at his dps and see if some advice can be given. The above log is from the latest raid where we cleared up to Spine and I hope will give you sufficient information.

A little bit of extra detail:
We are a very casual guild and therefore I can not guarantee what buffs I will have. Some raids we have a mage, some a lock, some both and some neither. Therefore I try to gear assuming that neither will be in the raid.

Having read the latest log I have identified (I think) that I do not use Mind Blast on cooldown which is obviously a flaw and I will look to fix this in the upcoming raids. However I am struggling to identify other flaws in my play which I am sure exist.

I currently do not have 4 set T13, infact I do not have 2set from normal DS. I do however have this with normal gloves and LFR legs, helm and chest. I am now contemplating using these as I feel this maybe more beneficial than the current gear I am using however if anyone disagrees please let me know.

Right now I am researching if I should actually reforge into mastery and down to the haste plateau for VT as I can not reach 3,202 haste right now.

Also I am now raid leading the guild after the christmas break and I really do struggle with focussing on my play which I feel affects my performance.

Well there maybe lots of useless info there but I hope some of it maybe useful. Any tips or hints you guys can give me would be so greatly appreciated.

With the 4pc t13 in mind he should trade haste to mastery, he can go down to 2589 haste rating (30% haste).

He seems to already use a mind spike rotation when fiend is up, make sure it's the right one. Following this thread will help him to deal wit the rotation in different situations.

He only used one volcanic potion, one should be used 1-2 seconds before the fight starts, so another one can be used during the fight. He can also choose to align it with archangel to maximize its potential.

Dot uptimes could be a little higher, 85% could be achieved having the mind spike rotation in mind.

The main potential for achieving higher dps is mind blast. He casts a mind blast every 10 seconds, this value should be more between 8 and 8.5 seconds.

Well I'd say you should adjust your reforging some so that you aren't so far over hit cap. I think you can get it really close to 17% without going under at all. You need to get your shoulders, gloves, and chest enchanted. You really really need more haste... all your pieces that don't currently have haste on them should be reforged to haste (like your neck).

You said this was for LFR, so I am assuming that you guys did the method where you have to jump across three platforms at the end so that might explain some of the low uptime on your dots. You can target the arms while you are in the air though and at least get dp and sw: p up right away. You only cast MB 75 times but you should at the very least be able to get 85 in that time frame.

I am assuming you only use MS on the single target tentacles? If you are going to do that make sure you don't accidentally target the arm and clear your dots... but it sucks when you do that.

Only 3 sw: d? You should be able to get a lot more than that in especially since you have the T13 2pc.

Wow ok! Not quite as bad as I thought then. Although there's room for improvement on DP. And yes, I did use the rotation with AA, I save it until that's ready. I was actually still in the early stage of trying out the new rotation. I've definately seen a decent improvement since gaining the t13 4 set.

One last question (sorry!) My reforging is haste to soft cap of 2589, after being as close to hit cap as possible, then reforging everything to mastery. Is this correct? I had read that having the VPLC and possibly Will of Unbinding(?) that I should stack more crit? Or is that only before gaining the t13 4 set?

Gear: You should change to the 4pc t13 even if parts of them are lfr, this would be more difficult if your t12 items would be heroic but they aren't so even t13 lfr is a gain to all stats.

With that in mind you should reforge to the vt+2 haste plateau and go full mastery after that considering the changed rotation with t13-4pc when fiend is up. You can read up on that here.

Other than that your log seems solid except for the mind blast count which could be higher. You casted a mind blast every ~9.5 seconds. This should be between 8 and 8.5 seconds.

All other things like buff alignment, dot uptime and mind flay uptime are very good, mind flay could be a little higher but not by much. Try to clip mind flay just after a tick to cast another spell.

Expectations: According to Simcraft my dps on patchwerk with the buffs I had on the kill I should do 31794.9 dps, but that's without using MS/MB rotation (in the sim) and its what I'm using so not 100% sure how accurate it is.

I can't say anything gear related as you are logged out in your healing gear.

Logwise i concentrated on try 2 of Ultraxion heroic since it lasted the longest:

Dot Uptimes are pretty low, you should aim for > 97% for VT and DP and 99-100% for sw: p, you can achieve that by start clipping your mind flays after the 2nd or 3rd tick to reapply a dot.

Mind Flay uptime could be higher (around 60%), start clipping here to to reduce the impact of server lag.

You casted a Mind Blast every 9,75 seconds, this value should be more around 8-8.5 seconds, you can alsoy improve that by clipping mind flays.

Try to align your second volcanic potion with archangel.

You changed your form once (i assume to cast a hymn). Don't do that, the dps loss that you got is greater than the gain of the healers in this phase of the fight, if healers struggle they need to improve.

So I'd guess mainly you can look at the Morchok, Yorsahj and Ultraxion fights since these were the Heroics we did and I admit I don't focus 100% during Normal kills. We were lacking a lot of caster buffs for this raid but we do have a nother Spriest in the raid with Legendary and a bit lower item level who you can compare with. Low uptime of all three dots is due my shadowfiend rotation (MS + MB) (at least I think). Ty for suggestions.

I play spriest as offspecc so most of the time is spent as disc. So if you want to watch other logs then check all Ultraxion HC fights. But tbh, I failed on the first one since had to get into "spriest mode" so the other ones after that are more accurate.

Since my armory is saved to my healing gear, I won't link my armory, but I'm in full 397 gear, I have 2 piece Tier 13, and have heroic shoulders and chest from Morchok. I'm using the dagger from Yor'sajh as weapon but I do have the haste staff from Madness in my bags, just read it's a bit less dps.

Well, the place where it hurts is my trinkets, I have DMC:Volcano and the VP trinket, which I macroed to Archangel since it's on the same cooldown.

Quite honestly I have no idea what I'm doing wrong on this one, but that is way too low dps, I did 26k, peak I have seen was 32k I believe in attempts.

Anyone can see any flaws in the rotation from the logs? because honestly I can't.
