Shadowlands Season 4 - Defeat Weekly Fated Raids for Higher Item Level Loot
Shadowlands Season 4 introduces a new affix system that adds mechanical challenges into Castle Nathria, Sanctum of Domination, and Sepulcher of the First Ones. Every week, raid bosses will be empowered with a special affix "Fated" and drop higher item level loot.

Fated Items and Rewards
This week's build (Build 43254) adds two new caches Cache of Fated Treasures (Fated) and Cache of Fated Treasures (Fated Heroic), which could be the quest rewards from the weekly Timewalking Dungeon Event or Shadowlands Dungeon Event in Season 4.

Previously builds also added Fated related items that can be combined to upgrade Fated gear to Heroic or Mythic quality.
  • Confounding Antique Cypher - Combine 20 Confounding Antique Cyphers to create the Cosmic Creation Impetus, which can be used to improve Fated raid items to Heroic quality.
  • Cosmic Creation Impetus - Realize the potential in a Fated raid item, upgrading it to Heroic quality.
  • Confounding Ancient Cypher - Combine 20 Confounding Ancient Cyphers to create the Sacred Creation Impetus, which can be used to improve Fated raid items to Mythic quality.
  • Sacred Creation Impetus - Fulfil the destiny of a Fated raid item, upgrading it to Mythic quality.

Upon interaction, the essence becomes hostile and instead continuously manifests Chaotic Motes. These motes channel 2 Cosmic damage into targeted players every 0.5 sec. for 3 sec. When defeated each mote splits into additional motes.

After 15 sec the Chaotic Essence dissipates, granting all players 2% increased damage done, 2% increased healing done, and 2% absorbs done for 30 sec. This effect stacks for each Chaotic Mote slain.

Fated Power: Protoform Barrier

Fated Power: Protoform Barrier - Protects the caster, reducing damage taken by 5% for 15 sec. This effect stacks every 1 sec.

Upon removal this barrier manifests as an attackable enemy, sharing a 1,400 absorb shield with all other enemies for 15 sec.

Upon expiration the barrier shatters, inflicting 80 Cosmic damage to all players.

If broken this effect backfires, inflicting all damage done to each enemy during the barrier as Cosmic damage, and additionally grants all players 10%-20% increased damage done for 20 sec.

Fated Power: Reconfiguration Emitter

Fated Power: Reconfiguration Emitter - Taints a player, inflicting 15 Cosmic damage every 1 sec. for 15 sec.

Upon removal this power manifests as an attackable enemy, which continuously casts. Successful casts inflict 40 Cosmic damage to all players.

While present the caster grants all players 5% increased damage done, 15% increased damage taken, and 15% increased healing done. This effect is disabled while the caster is unable to act.

Fated Power: Replicating Essence

Fated Power: Replicating Essence - Ensnares afflicted players, reducing movement speed by 15% and inflicting 15 Cosmic damage every 1 sec. for 5 sec.

Upon removal this essence patterns inself as 2 |4attackable enemy:attackable enemies;, which continuously channels 2 Cosmic damage every 0.5 sec. into targeted players for 4 sec.

Upon defeat grants all players 10% increased damage done and 10% increased healing and absorbs done for 10 sec.

Upon reaching full power, this essence replicates itself into 2 |4additional copy:additional copies;, exhausting itself preventing additional replication and no longer grants players any beneficial effects upon defeat. Exhausted Essences continuously channels 5 Cosmic damage every 1 sec. into multiple targeted players for 4 sec.

    Well.

You can't say they aren't trying.

The having it on rotation is a good call at least, stops the whole "But groups will argue over whose BIS to get reee" complaints at least.

    might be an interesting twist.

As long as it's only used during droughts i really don't see a problem with it.

Pretty good mechanic that keeps other tiers in the expansion relevant. I like it

Why make new stuff when you can just recycle old content and call it new

One of the biggest complaints I see from people is that old raids become irrelevant too fast. I see this as a good change that I hope they keep updated for the future. Maybe expand it to raids from older expansions too

Because they aren't going to make any new content at the end of an expansion. The last time I can even remember a new raid coming out after the Main Expansion boss raid was Ruby Sanctum.

This right here is why Blizzard will never ever win with the community.

OT: I'm slightly worried at how some of these are clearly targetted at making lives harder for specific roles, and how they'll affect my raid team, but it's something interesting to add at least.

there should be an opt-in/out for it.
    hurts no one, helps everyone.

imagine coming back, wanting to progress on your own with your guild (the whole " i will come back when everything is released" thing) and now progression is harder every 3 weeks with no options out.
same with lfr, it is already a wipefest with the wrong groups, good luck with affixes, unless they massively undertune them in lfr.

m+ got an extra mode that did not affect regular mythic dungeons.
the main argument against "i don't like [thing]" is usually "don't like it? don't play it", but without an opt-out, this system forces affixes on people once every 3 weeks.

Would you prefer the alternative that we've had at the end of every single expansion for the last decade... a 12+ month content drought without anything new?

Yeah, this appears to be a good way to tackle content droughts, while also allowing the previous SL raids to be relevant again and may even allow gear/trinkets from those raids to be viable again (due to higher ilvl), which some people may like. I personally prefer these "fated" raids over something like Ruby Sanctum.

But I will say, this is only something I would like to see at the end of an expansion, if blizz decides to use this again in the future.

the ui literally shows you can even queue up for LFR. If you can't even do that much, then you don't even deserve it.

Don't even deserve what ? New things to do for the year we have left till the new expansion?

If you mean gear ....well that's a learn to read problem you need to fix not me, because I didn't mention gear.

It's a step in the right direction, although the way it's being implemented still feels a bit arduous or convoluted as described. Could write it off as this wasn't planned at all, and it's a stop-gap measure instead of a well thought-out system. Potentially another good idea, bad execution (or just missing the mark) in the making.

Ultimately, the real trick is getting people to actually want to go back into old raids, even with the added affix mechanics and gear upgrades. Unless the numbers shown are the actual numbers (which I highly doubt), players tend to be very split on kiss/curse mechanics. I'd hazard a guess that the people who would be likely to engage in this system would be people who wouldn't have left the game anyways, so as a retention mechanic it's probably going to have a negligible effect. You're still fighting against all the other issues in WoW that either turn off or discourage people from engaging in raiding, as well as already being done with old raids if you had already spent a ton of time progressing/reclearing them. If anything, I'd guess you'll see pug groups doing this content, not really progression guilds (similar to timewalking raids).

So what is it you actually do in wow? What’s stopping you from still enjoying your pet battles/pvp/fishing contests or whatever it is people do these days?
  1. kamuimac's Avatar
ridiculous idea - adding more mechanics to already ovetuned overmechaniced encounters and raids that people dont want to do anymore because they already did and burned out / their guild died on it.

simply cannot wait to see the absolute fail of this system .

I am hoping that is the plan moving forward. would definitely improve the end of expansion content drought we usually get

can we not play them without the Fated affix, like we can do currently?
