Dragonflight Pre-Patch Maintenance Schedule
Blizzard has announced an 8 hour maintenance for Dragonflight Pre-Patch Phase 1. NA servers are expected to come back online around 3:00 PM PT.

Dragonflight - Maximum Number of Characters Increased to 60
The maximum number of characters per account has been increased from 50 to 60 in Dragonflight. This will give players room to create Dracthyr Evokers, as well as new class and race combinations of Mages, Priests, and Rogues.

    I honestly wish they would just give us another 50 character slots, or even 30.

    Oh that's actually pretty sweet, saves me having to delete chars I've leveled (Even if I wont ever play them again lol)

    I never saw the need to have that many characters. Most expansions I have about 3-4 characters that I actively play which his more than enough. I guess its good for people wanting to farm mounts out of raids

    Well, as someone who actually needs a second account because 50 chars are not enough .... I totally see the need to have that many characters.

    Why do you have or want 100 chars???
    I've played for almost 20 years, across all servers, horde and alliance? Think i have about 25. Actively play like 3-4 depending on where wow is at.
    I could easily delete 15 of them and never even notice.

    Some people like leveling? Like, different race/class combos and such. Also during WoD it was actually really good to have as many chars as possible to benefit from the obscene gold returns from the garrisons. There's also the farming old raids for mounts and transmog people, you don't need to be actively playing all 50 or 60 to benefit from this change.

    There are a lot of class/race combinations, you can't freely swap between pre-saved barbershop appearances, and daily/weekly lockouts are still a thing on 15 year old transmog-relevant content so every alt you have gives you an extra chance per week to get the collectable you want

    As someone who levels every class from 1 to cap every expansion.... it is always sad having to delete a ton of characters;
    Some of us just like leveling and like having a bunch of characters;

    Just want to preface it with saying I don't see it as a bad thing but it also sticks out as something very, very extreme.
    I get the extra chances and whatnot but 100 chars? And why would you want all class/race combos? And I don't get the barbershop thing, not like you're gonna be playing 3 paladins equally geared with different appearances?
    I just can't wrap my head around a scenario where I would ever need 50, let alone 100 but each to their own I guess :P

    Oh no, Blizzard did something good even if not meaningful to a few people (but quite nice for lot of others)

    Let's hate em!!!

    Seriously, why are people complaining about this?

    I can't speak for others, but myself personally I had multiple servers I used to actively play on with different raid teams and I've always been someone that took pride in being prepared for raid nights without having to rely on others in the guild while also helping them out, so for me my army of alts is largely for professions, materials, and (truth be told) mission tables. A shocking number of my crafting mats came from just having 5-10 characters on each of the servers I played on running missions for crafting material bags or doing equipment missions and disenchanting the rewards. By the time I stopped raiding in SL, I had thousands of most materials sitting in reagent banks from mission table rewards, even after the mountains of materials I had routinely been depositing into various guild banks for other people to make use of. Another benefit of having so many alts is that I can be incredibly flexible for a raid team. The usual druid healer can't make it tonight? Dust off the druid and fill the spot. Tank can't make it? I've got 6 flavors of tank to choose from. Also great for M+ so I can fill whatever spot the group needs with the appropriate utility.

    TL;DR, I like the flexibility of having alts and they're very lucrative when used properly

    is the 60 character cap official or still just a hope based on a PTR change?

    100 active characters is a bit much, even from my perspective, but I have rubbed up against the 50 limit a few times in recent years and to make Evokers I was deleting the last of the throw-away characters I've got, so I'm glad for the extra room. Especially as they add more combos; sometimes I just like the aesthetics

    Nice change on character cap. I think 3 is optimistic but fingers crossed.

    Blizzard would not even need that at all, if they would still invest at least a bit into the game and create a character name reservation service.

    because >70% of all the characters, capped by the 50 slots, are just level 1 characters, for name reservation. a few different ppl did that data analyzing over the last decade. the result was always the same: >70% are level 1 chars.

    this doesn’t mean there are no ppls, leveled 50+ characters (see posters above). but with some smart technology („automatically give em more slots, if they need em, infinite“), combined with a character name reservation service aka simple web UI (just saving that char name into a DB and link it with the account), Blizz would save themselves resources. and 10% of that saved resources would be enough, to give above „50+ leveling chars“-peoples infinite char slots.

    BUT:
    this means you
    - need to invest effort into your product
    - still care about your product or customers

    so…

    If Tauren and Draenei can be rogues, then Gnomes should be able to be druids.

    Again. I don't want to "create" new race-class combinations. I want to change races for existing characters FOR FREE. I don't want to delete my existing characters or make duplicates. Lack of racial identity in this game - is Blizzards' mistake. Why should I pay for their mistakes?

    So the increase is as of tonight's patch and not expansion launch then? Cool, I've been looking forward to some extra room

    Blizzard have been shooting their leg for last 2-3 xpacks. For whom they make alt-unfriendly half-year 24/7 grinds like Anima grind, if majority of their playerbase needs >50 slots for alts?
