I almost forgot how much of an absolute wasteland this forum has become. This thread fixed that right up lol.

    What?
Me, every time her face appeared on screen: "Yay a dwarf!! She's so cute, I love her!"

People on MMOC: "Ew 2/10 dwarf, no one wants to see that."

But holy fuck, what a boring cinematic. Self-congratulatory circle jerk with dragons, and nothing else. What's that evoker doing ffs, just posing for the camera?

On brand for DF, I guess - bland, boring, uninspired, and entirely inconsequential. And definitely not getting me back to the game.
When you write things, do you actually think they make sense?

Congratulations for what? Do you understand what congratulatory means?

Inconsequential? How can you tell all that about an expansion before it has been released? Doesn't make a lick of sense no matter what your judgement is of what's on offer today.

Well, apparently I'm not the only who thinks that thing was supposed to resemble a proto drake..
I think the Primal Incarnates are meant to be more evocative of their proto-dragon roots than the Aspects or their Dragonflights. Far larger and elementally infused, but still having the co-joined wings/arms with the smaller set of almost dinosaur-like forelimbs. They've obviously changed a good deal from their template, but they definitely look more like giant proto-drakes than the more traditional dragons of the five Flights.

Bro you could almost 1 for 1 say this for both the vanilla wow and tbc cinematics. Nevermind the fact dragonflight has had 2 where they only had 1.

Ohh man what's this orc infront of a burning ofgrimmar doing just swinging at air?

Not sure if i like the tone of DF. Everything seems so... too happy... It is a game where we literally run around commiting genocide every day and our main work is kill everything that walks. Like someone above said it looks more like a pixar movie trailer. Not serious enough. I always waited for some "boink" sound somewhere.

Female dwarf is a bit too "pretty" imho. Should look more like the ingame ones considering the males have noses a big as her head was in the trailer. Again. Females are just humans with a small difference. In this case the height.

Razageth looks fine. Still another villian from thin air but hey.... i don't think blizz is capable of building up a villian. They just always appear and immediatly get killed.

What was the drakthyr doing there anyway? It was a "story" trailer and bam... posing scaly gabiru and back to the story.

I will play DF but i am even more sketpical than i was for Shadowlands.

This wasn't a story trailer, no where is there any story. This is a launch trailer in the same style as shadowlands, vanilla, and tbcs. There is no story, this is just showing off some stuff and building hype.

Also you know stuff can be happy and dark at the same time right?
Remember pandaria haha funny silly panda cinematic Kung Fu panda silly haha look the alliance and horde stand jaws agape and hand eachother weapons so silly funny, thos expac is Pixar!

Enslavement, mass genocide, entire populations being purged, children crushed under bells, others murdered, a nuking of a fucking city, capturing and torture of civilians fleeing said nuke, oh let's make parents fight to the death so their kid is not executed, terror tactics including bombing civilian gatherings, murdering prisoners of war, destroying medical sites, taining lands, and suicide tactics.
    Hahah silly Pixar!!!! Right?

Yeah, took your advice and put the dude on ignore, those strawmen were something else, quite pathetic.

OT: The trailer really reminded me of the Scenes from Avatar, so I checked them out when I got home from work and I'll just say that they at least "took inspiration" from there. All in all I still enjoy the trailer tho, not one of the greats but one f the weaker ones either.

    Hahah silly Pixar!!!! Right?
    Are you all right?

MoP Trailer and MoP as a whole had this problem at the beginning. Changed later on and maybe it does for DF. Right now it is too happy for me.
Trailer looks and feels like pixar. You can rage all you want. Won't change that for me.
The dwarf is a lore character. She appears again with turalyon and Wrathion ingame. The troll probably will do it for the horde side. For now it seems like it shows something actually happening. But as i am not 100% sure about it i wrote story in quotes. Either way the drakthyr scene feels completly out of place as everything else in the trailer was connected with a storyline. It was not just a bunch of disconnected bits and bobs. It was a complete short story and a drakthyr posing.

Your point being...? Are you suggesting those cinematics were particularly good, or something? Are you suggesting *I* thought those cinematics were particularly good?

Also: you're comparing entirely different eras. Holding things from more than a decade later to the same standard is a terrible, terrible sign.

That is the way the community is trending though. It isn't a terrible sign. It is just something you don't like. Classic has been a success. The community has asked Blizzard to return to its roots and have a less "cosmic" focus for an expansion. We got that. Why shouldn't the cinematic also be influenced by those things?

I think a lot of people forgot where this franchise came from. This new trailer was HIGHLY inspired by the original cinematic trailer as well as pulling some inspiration from The Burning Crusades cinematic trailer.

    World of Warcraft
    The Burning Crusade
    Dragonflight

And hot damn was this a refreshing change of pace, this really feels like the first expansion to be inspired by Classic WoW, if this trailer represents the direction they're going in, this is going to be a wonderful expansion. What those trailers were successful in is they highlighted that the player is the focus of the expansion, the narrative throughline supporting the idea that we're adventuring in the Dragon Isles in the same way we adventure through the original Azeroth and Outland.

You people saying that is a bad direction need to remember where this game came from, and to me, this return to form is so god damn refreshing. If the release and success of Classic WoW brought this on, then I am so happy it happened. This is the first time in a long time that I'm truly excited to return to a simpler game that focuses on fun and adventure above all. That's the reason I fell in love with the game in the first place.

Why can't we just have hordes of dragons/dragonriders killing each other? That's kinda what I was hoping DF would become. Not a Pixar movie.

I feel like this sums up where the discontent comes from; it's just a tonality problem with many people. Had the expansion been dark and brooding, edgy, designed for what a teenager would think is incredible, the people who disliked it would likely praise it.

I don't blame them, Blizzard has been curating that tone for quite some time, we really haven't had a fun and lighthearted trailer and launch since Mists of Pandaria. Every expansion post that launched with some kind of impending doom. Invasion of the Iron Horde, Invasion of the Burning Legion, Declaration of the Forth War, Sylvannas unleashing the realm of death.

Personally, I find this new direction enlightening, it's a change of pace, and it successfully struck a balance just like the original WoW trailer did. Moments of peace, fun, excitement, adventure, and danger.

There would be nothing wrong with that if that is the direction Blizzard wanted to take. Just as there is nothing wrong with Blizzard listening to trends in the community. They have been trying to sell that this expansion is about exploration. The cinematic captures that. I'm also not sure why people keep using "Pixar movie" as a derogatory term. The reason why those films are often so successful is they appeal to all ages.

The pacing in this wasn't jank, and that's enough to view it as better from a viewer's perspective.
I was fine with the pacing. I like ghrand pacing that feels epic. It don't need speed. The 2nd one looks like it came out of a Disney/Pixar film and far more kiddie than any other cinematic. That gets even more exposed when you put it up against cinematics of every other expansion.

I have the same feeling I had with Pandaria the expansion was for Kids . Maybe its the cinematic because they didn't show the major bad ass enemy

I don't see where you're coming from on this point... I didn't get WoW Classic vibes. There doesn't need to be a war or big baddie, just show off a group of adventurers walking into a cave and coming across treasure being guarded by a feral dragon. Classic WoW's cinematic touched on different races fighting each other in different zones. It didn't have some happy go lucky girl flapping in the wind with a smile on their face. I'm surprised I didn't start hearing "Let it go" start playing (from Frozen)
