Is it ok to use even more invasive "Buy DF" ads in paid game? They pop up after every loading screen now. I don't think, it's ok for serious company to use such marketing strategy. I already start wanting to freeze my sub and stop playing. And it's just first day of this "trial".

Or, and this might be a shock, engagement is good but less people started playing this expansion after the disaster of SL so it makes sense to try and get those people that didn't give DF a chance to play because who cares about a discount of the expansion when the real money comes from the long term subscription anyway.

Game is getting more and more bloated and is such a messy state. It just needs a total reset and new start not adding even more mess.

You only get access to Dragonflight if you already have an active sub/game time. This trial is for people who are already subbed but still haven't bought the expansion not people who quit in shadowlands that they are trying to get back otherwise it would be a sub free trial.

eh i was starting to install the game but then i realised its only for people with an active subscription. oh well, guess i wont then. why on earth did i believe they were giving folks a free month is beyond me

Everyone with an active account who didn't buy DF.
That means if you don't have any gametime up you'll need to spend enough gold for a token (which can be done when loging into the game without any sub/time) or take one month sub.

    It's not a 100% free trial.

This is a weird promotion, it's nearly six months since DF launched so who would have an active sub or gametime but not DF at this point in time?

For anyone that is not subbed but wanting to try DF I noticed that there was three days of free gametime in the gifts menu on the launcher.

only ones i can think are farming bots, but even them they still (usually) farm in end-game zones

Or for people who are subbed to play classic, or wouldn't want to buy the expansion outright but don't mind paying for a single month.

free trial but you need to pay a month, lol...

    it should be 100% free.

There's just so many better options for games that are better experiences overall versus the price you have to pay for a wow and I really do think within the next two years it's going to be fully free to play, it's already paid to win since you can buy tokens and just gear out from the fucking auction house so they might as well take the next step and actually make more money which is normally what happens when games go to free to play their revenue stream goes way up it just makes no sense at this point to keep it as a subscription based game.

Hmm I think instead of free to play they're just gonna wrap it up with gamepass if/when MS takes over - I'd give that the 2 year window you provided for sure

Overall it means, that there are many players like me, who play game, but haven't bought DF. Otherwise Blizzard wouldn't care about it. My reason for not buying DF: I don't see any real improvements after completely failed SL. Blizzard assume, that everything except borrowed powers was perfect in this game back in Legion, BFA and SL. So, they've replaced endless borrowed power grinds with endless cosmetic grinds. But game have completely different problems. Only M+ and raids are polished. Everything else is supplementary to them. There is no proper casual content/reward structure. There is no motivation to play game. Group only content puts pressure on casual players, that is actually sort of long term FOMO. If content isn't completed within patch time frame - next time player will be able to do it in next xpack. Of course only if Blizzard won't use terrible scaling. For example I still can't kill Legion rares, because they're intentionally scaled to be "skulls", that is complete nonsense. I just no longer want to play such game. I take a break and play old content.

Only crowd I can think of off the top of my head is the classic crowd, since the subscription is all the same. I have no idea how large that crowd actually is, nor whether such a crowd would be receptive to playing DF, nor what ratio of those players already have DF. I suppose there's also a crowd that playes retail WoW but doesn't play the current expansion, but I can't see that crowd being anywhere near the size of the classic crew.

Beyond that, I guess a case could be made that just buying a month's worth of subscription time is fairly cheap and may entice some players to give DF a shot. Be that as it may, I don't see financial restrictions being the main reason people don't play DF as WoW has been a fairly cheap source of entertainment considering how much time you can sink into the game if you want. At this stage of the expansion, if you haven't bought DF you probably aren't even if it's free.

The timing is weird yet not. All these recent promotional deals for DF seem odd, tending towards an indication that all is not well in the realm of retail WoW... although it's not really surprising given everything that's lead up to this point. What's not weird is that the free trial lasts through June 4, which is when D4 players can start playing early. I think it would be interesting what sort of time frame this deal was conceptualized, as it comes off as being planned but not potentially too long ago.

Doubt it. ESO retained it's sub model even after being acquired by MS. Granted it's a different monetization model but the only benefit from the pass is a tiny discount on shop items and even that only for consoles.
It will make 0 sense to make a 13 euro sub granted for free in a 11 euro sub. Evem if they raise the pass to 20 it will still not make that much sense.
