Update #2 - Yes, Patch 4.0.6 is next week, stop asking.

Luck of the Draw Buff
Originally Posted by Blizzard (Blue Tracker)
In case you aren't already aware, Luck of the Draw is the name of the buff you get for grouping with random people using Dungeon Finder. It currently provides a 5% buff to damage, healing, and health if you have at least one random player in your group. With patch 4.0.6, we are increasing this buff to 5% damage, healing, and health per random player, up to a maximum of 15%.

In the process of working on this change we actually discovered that the Luck of the Draw buff has not been working in Cataclysm at all, save for a few specific dungeons. This means that the difficulty in almost all normal and Heroic dungeons for those using the Dungeon Finder tool was higher than expected. Still, with that issue corrected in 4.0.6, we feel the bump up to 15% for three or more random players found through the Dungeon Finder is a necessary change.

The intent of Luck of the Draw is to help make up for the lack of coordination, communication, and familiarity that pick up groups suffer relative to organized groups of guild members and friends. Cataclysm dungeons, especially on Heroic mode, are quite challenging and ask for more group organization than the Wrath of the Lich King dungeons did. Therefore, Luck of the Draw became relatively weaker in Cataclysm. I'm painting the picture with unfairly large brush strokes here, but in general, Heroic dungeons are of appropriate difficulty for organized groups, but just brutal on Dungeon Finder groups. Players wonder, and rightly so, why Dungeon Finder supports Cataclysm Heroic dungeons at all when the chance of success is so low.

We think buffing Luck of the Draw is a good way to go about correcting the difficulty differences because it makes things slightly easier on PUGs without depriving the organized groups of a fun challenge. We also think the bonus is modest enough that it won't encourage organized groups to split up and just PUG instead - - the success rate for PUGs relative to organized groups is just that far behind. We still think you'll have more fun and a greater chance of success running dungeons with friends, but when that isn’t possible, we hope this change will make Dungeon Finder a more pleasant experience. Also remember that patch 4.0.6 is adjusting the difficulty of some bosses that are particularly unforgiving, such as Ozruk in Heroic Stonecore, though to be fair, we are buffing some underperforming encounters as well. In addition, we are offering larger Justice Point rewards for players who just prefer the faster pace and greater success rate of normal dungeons, and by the time 4.1 comes out everyone will have access to more powerful gear, making the older content even easier. But then there'll be new challenges to face!

We'd like to thank everyone who has provided us with feedback. We do listen, even if we don't immediately deploy every design change suggested by the player community. Our intent is to make the game fun for a wide variety of players, which can be quite a challenge when you have a community this large and this varied. We hope you continue to enjoy the game, and look forward to sharing more changes (and a few surprises) in the months ahead.

All Rated Battleground Weeks Now 10v10

Looking at participation, the 10vs10 rated battleground weeks have been far and away more popular than the 15vs15 weeks. The difference in organizational requirements as well as battleground map popularity have been a couple big factors that have led to the 10vs10 weeks seeing a great deal more action. By making this change and supporting the popular option we hope to encourage even more players and teams to participate, as they won’t have to wait out every other week, or struggle to beef up to 15 players to match the requirement.

We also have plans to adapt additional battleground maps in the future to work in the 10 player bracket to increase the variety of maps available.

With "good" gear on tank, the healing isn't really a problem at all on most heroics.

If I go with guildies to a random HC as a tank, from here on, I want to bring a DPS or 2 with me and take the healer and last 1/2 dps as randoms, to get the most benefit(assuming that the random DPS does not have access to a heroic raid loot, like most of the people from my guild do).

I'd just go to random HC as a dps with 1 other guild dps, but it takes too long to get a random tank + they usually can't hold the threat anyways.

    ---

Unless I want to farm some guild rep, when I just go with 4 other guildies.

    --

Not that important of a change, just kinda silly how you really only have to care about the damage buff though, so you want to get the best possible DPS with you, since any healer will do.

Thank goodness for this change. All the elitists claiming "pugs were already easy lulz" are lying trolls. They run with guildies, which means it's not a PUG. Come queue for a dungeon in my battlegroup, Emberstorm, and see how dumb the average player is. The content of this expansion is not that hard. It's the low intelligence of the average player that makes it hard. A +15% buff across the board will greatly help more PUGs finish successfully.

I've always maintained that the separation between casual players and hardcore players needs to be from dungeons to raids. Heroic dungeons should be there to help people gear for raids, but not be as difficult (if not moreso in some areas) than raids.

AMG QQ they nerfed...oh wait no they didnt nerf anything. This buff only affects people who pug, not people who go with their guild. Just makes heroics go by quicker and a bit smoother thanks to that boost in dps/health/etc.

People will complain about anything, as usual.

Yay, I'm very happy about this change! Finally I can start doing heroics with my 333 geared tanks and not have to worry about it being a super fail. Seriously, I have been afraid to do them because of how horrible it seemed to be when I was doing them with my slightly more geared dps. Now I can get geared up and be ready to do raids when my guild starts going them. We are often on at different times and people do their own thing, so I am usually not on when they are doing a couple of heroics.

    Great change!

Seems i got back into WoW at the right time. I knew it was smart to stay away for a few months since people have no clue how to play. It doesnt matter what is "hard" or "easy" in WoW. When players complain, mind you the *majority*, something isnt right, period. We all know it, raids in cata will eventually be nerfed as well. This is a side effect that will appear after they make the heroics easier for pugs. You see, once the "casual" player, or any player for that matter, get past heroic 5-man dungeons, they want in on the raids.

Players pay a subscription fee, they expect to get to "play" what they pay for. Blizzard is not a dumb company, unlike the rest mmo companies out there. They know how to make the majority of players happy and keep playing their game.

You see, games have to be "easy" these days. Even WoW. If you would go back 15-20 years in time and create WoW you'd have problem even killing a regular mob without an organized group and top notch communication. Yes, games were harder back then, but was that for the better or worse? Have you kids even seen a "Game Over" text in your life? You think that putting together a group of 10-25 people should be considered a "raid"? Seriously now, 10-25 is basically just a group. The boss fights are so dumb that even *you* can google it up and learn how to do it... eventually. How many of you have even done a raid without looking up the tactics? You're just a bunch of wannabe-elitists. In the end you're just another scrub like the majority of players.

If you unable to be coordinated sufficiently in a random heroic, then you are not ready for random heroics.

I've got no problem with it. Gearing alts in randoms, because my guild mates generally only do one a day, was a massive pain in the ass. Zoning in to a fresh wipe, only to explain the fight, and wipe again, isn't fun. I feel this was needed.

I have not read this entire thread...but my 2c:

I think heroics are well tuned. Yes we rolfstomp them when I tank with my guild...but when i pug them (which i do daily) on my dps toon they are a challenge for some groups. I LIKE this challenge. For all of you saying anyone opposed to this change is just an elitist who is too concerned over other people's play experience: you are in some cases wrong. You fail to consider there are some people who like it slightly difficult. I LIKE not being assured of success in a dungeon pug. I LIKE having to work with random people in order to accomplish a goal. 15 percent is a LOT. Maybe leaving it at 5, but actually making sure the 5 percent was activated, would have been enough. This will kill any challenge heroics still hold for all but the worst, most undergeared, and uncoordinated groups out there. That is a bad thing.

Tell that to the 2 DPS standing in the fire. This almost is enough to get me to come back to WoW.

I have mixed feeling about this patch seeing as my main is a shaman and were are already gimped dps wise this patch will be a shaman killer.

Good job Blizzard. A good change to dungeons for once.

For all those who are complaining that this change will ruin their dungeon experience.....go with a group of server friends or guildies. The buff won't apply to you then. Tada! Problem solved. Also, you still have heroic raids for a challenge, and as was stated in an earlier post, if you really want a challenge in the heroic dungeons, then 3 or 4 man them. Again, Tada! Problem solved. Quit your belly aching just because Blizzard is helping the people who are struggling or hate taking so long in dungeon runs.

I don't care if you want to feel leet. Think of others for once.

Then try doing a pug in H-Grim Batol after the patch and have everyone ignore all boss mechanics. I wish you luck!

What a joke, I pug my daily valor points alot because i log at weird times and almost every pug i join is more then capable of beating the heroic.

It's not even hard in my opinion.

omg stfu about this being a unneeded nerf... why the hell do you care if the heroics are easy when from your POV ur only doing them once a day for valors, i know that i personally dread havingt o do my daily because i know after a 40min que i have to spend 3 hours in a dungeon and about 200g on repairs, sur ei get the occasional good pug but usually there not. so if you seriously still care about heroics then your a not a very good player because then your trying to say that you dont raid, u only do heroic dungeons and thats where ylou want your challenge to be. so shut up and complain about important nerfs, like raid nerfs etc not bloody heroic dungeons....

I think this is the best fix that they could make to heroics - wise and reasonable

    1) You're in a guild group / skilled friend group? No buff for you
    2) You're pugging almost everything? Well there is the 15% buff - won't make ppl ignore boss mechanics, but will help. This should also make the LFD queues shorter.

    1. Blizzard never said that. 2. I don't listen to or read posts by elitist exclusionists using terms like EZ mode epics and such. They are in the very vocal very small minority and don't deserve recognition from me.

I don't care, and I'm pretty confident a good number of non-herpaderp players don't either. It's just a slap-in-the-face when they keep touting this 'heroics are fine, we're not going to change them' they've been saying since release. That, coupled with the fact it's really just trying to band-aid the real issue of people lamenting the RDF, which is most of the playerbase not being properly educated in-game about how to effectively play the game at even a remedial level, is irritating, to say the least.

But again, do I care? No, not in the slightest, considering all this does is make me look better, and it's not going to make all those horrible players magically good. They'll still die to stupid things, and we'll be back at the status quo. All this being said, it would honestly be fiscally retarded of them to not eventually pander to their largest audience at some point in time.

It's an amazing solution, in my opinion.
I sure wouldn't have thought of it.
    Quoted for truth.
Also, you cant really argue with the kind of people you just quoted, they dont understand basic things, like there are more players of different skills and more classes than theirs.
This buff exactly points at lack of communication and pin-point execution of pugs and as such its amazing. ALSO, i dont get the reason why all you ~346+ geared players are whining heroics are easy again, it is kinda point of gearing that high, you should be running raids by that time if you want challenge.
