Diablo 3 - Activision Blizzard Q4 Conference Call - Diablo III Planned for Q2 2012

WoW stabilizes over 10M subscribers, down 100k in Q4 2011
Activision Blizzard latest earning call revealed that World of Warcraft lost 100,000 subscribers last quarter, following the loss of 800k subscribers announced last quarter and 300k loss from the quarter before that. The game lost 1.8M Subscribers over the year but the number seems to stabilize over 10M and it wouldn't be surprising to see it go back up with the release of Mists of Pandaria this year.

World of Warcraft now has 10.2M active subscribers.

  • World of Warcraft lost 100,000 subscribers, down to 10.2 million. This was a total lost of 1.8 million for the year.
  • Diablo III should launch in Q2
  • More than one million Annual Passes have been sold in the West.
  • Blizzard is happy with how the subscription numbers held up during the most competitive quarter ever.
  • When asked about churn since the competitor's launch, "December was a good month for us."
  • There are ~50 million active Battle.net, Call of Duty multiplayer, Call of Duty Elite, and Skylanders WebWorld users.

I agree, GW2 being non sub means it's not really a competitor like ToR is, it's like saying Skyrim will kill WoW.

that is truly amazing as 20/20 people i know that were subbed for WoW cancelled and 20/20 who subbed for SWTOR are still subbed.

its funny how personal experiences translate into complete anecdotal garbage

This is true. I wonder how many are paying for the Annual Pass but not playing at all. I also wonder at what point they will finally put a fork in the Cataclysm (appropriate name for the effect on subscriptions) and go back to the after action review of Wrath. Perhaps instead of rolly polly pandas, player models would be in line, and maybe just maybe we liked the old system. Nah, the devs couldn't have been wrong, has to be lazy players right?

I'm pretty sure those 1.2m players quit WoW to play an exciting new game, World of Forumcraft. They're rapidly leveling up to QQ level 85, filling forums with impotent rage over changes to a game they claim not to play anymore.

So Just having 2nd thoughts about the anouncement... WoW fanboys are celebrating they lost 2million the year we just had , after they anouncing MoP, after the RELEASE of Cataclysm , after insane overadvertisement + 7 days of free game time to veterans? really?

Some more information would be nice. Most businesses refer to Fiscal years when addressing stockholders, not traditional years.

Quarter 2 of 2012's Fiscal year is January - March 31.

Lets keep in mind this 'sloppy work" was done while MoP was also making vast improvements where as in the past we just did nothing while they were working on a xpac for a year extra and they are giving us it faster than ever. We will be seeing Alpha or even Beta by Easter, and i am more than sure that annual pass has surpassed 1 million my entire guild has it. Regardless of anything, this year we get MoP, Heart of the Swarm, and D3. I think they are giving us all plenty

Pendulum swings both ways, 7/8 people I know who went to play ToR with have cancelled. Of my friends guild that I did not play with (not included in the 8 people) have ALL quit ToR as well.

    Anecdotal evidence is just that.

Im not playing and still have the annual sub, np though, but i wonder if they took that in to account.

I think it would be much more

Considering the outbreak of several over-hyped games in competition and the current condition of the entire economy, I'm glad they're doing so well. Now let's see an increase for the quarter!

    Lol at the haters...

    Previously:

"Lawlz WoW is gonna bleed huge subscriberz in Q4... idiotz lol"

    After Q4...

"GOD DARN IT! YOU WASCAWY WABITS WAIT UNTIL Q1, THEN SHIT HIT FAN!"

Also, I think it's funny when people are trying to make the 100k loss seem bigger then it is.

Now I'm gonna get some more popcorn, brb.

They have lost a lot more without the annual pass. Probably the greatest trick Blizzard has ever pulled.

No surprise regarding WoW stabilizing, I do not like the fact that they are now aiming for a Q2 release of Diablo II though. q.q"
