WoW Up to 10 Million Subscribers
This afternoon Blizzard released the subscribers count as of November 13, 2014. This is up 2.6 million from the Q3 2014 call that listed WoW at 7.4 million subscribers.

Warlords of Draenor has sold over 3.3 million copies so far, up from 1.5 million pre-ordered in August.

Garrison Campaign Quests Active
Garrison Campaign quests are now active and the one you get each week appears to be random.

One option you may get is from Khadgar's Servant in your garrison, which sends you to Shadowmoon Valley for a short quest chain that rewards Sargerei Disguise (which is not a Toy).

Now people moan that World of Warcraft not has 10million players but 9.999.999 players.

Go figure...what is it to us? Do we rly need the confirmation of numbers to enjoy the game?

    Guess so....we are so shortsighted.

Except it doesn't. Yes there a bigger gain in subs, but the grand total is the same as at the start of MoP. I do however believe that more people got excited cause of the warcraft vibe of this expansion.

Something I don't really get: Does 3,3 mil sold copies mean there are 6.7 mil playing an outdated game?

I don't know why everyone's going crazy over this; the graph clearly shows that it's the same amount of subs they had at the beginning of MoP too. "Resub to try the new expansion" is nothing new. I have a friend who does it every time lol. All it means is that not much has changed since MoP. Now if subs went up some more instead of down like usual since Cata, THAT would be interesting for breaking the pattern.

75% of WOD sales are new subs? Ok.

Peak at the WoD start is 200% bigger than the peak at MoP start. That is a big thing.

Number of subscriptions is 3 times larger than number of WoD sales. Sounds very fishy. People playing right now without WoD are rare exceptions.

    And this.

Numbers just don't add up. Ether they report false numbers or we are missing something?

Have to disagree. A small sub boost for a new expansion is nothing new, but a 2.6 million boost is something else entirely.

Edit: also, maybe we are overlooking something? I'm assuming the 10 million subscribers is worlwide, but as of 13 November WoD wasn't out yet in Asia, so perhaps that's why there are still so many subscribers without WoD?

You mean to say players on mainland china based accounts?

Many players in Asia also play on EU/US realms. So they have to buy the expansions and Subscribe. (Including myself). Are you counting those player accounts as EU/NA accounts effectively?

HAHA! Oh man... someone dig up all the old cynical sub posts and shame them for me please.

Great news for WoW. That explains the shaky launch as well. If by the grace of Thrall there's not a decrease by next quarter, the mmo genre might be saved.

"Happy panda abomination"...spoken by someone that was too shallow to actually experience the expansion? Because as someone playing through it all, it sure as hell was no "happy pandaland".

But then again, people choose to be ignorant and stupid about more important topics.

While I agree with you, you must admit that this spike is significantly larger than Cata or MoP had. Hell, didn't Cata actually bring a drop?

Lol Blizzard is very clever with their PR machine.

First a few days ago they release the following:

Since the launch of Warlords of Draenor we’ve seen a large amount of positive reaction to the new content available in the expansion.
Clearly, they based this view on the number of copies sold, the 3.3million.

Today they come once again with PR bullshit saying that the subscribers are up to 10million at the day of the launch, 2.5 months earlier than the next Quarter Submission. just to tell the "ignorant" that this expansion as been a overwhelm success, lets see how many of those 10m actually stay by the end of the december, when the Finalcial quarter closes before releasing the fireworks.

Well hot diggity damn. I wonder how long that peak will last.
  1. mmocf89c8b0f36's Avatar
Meh, it doesn't really say anything. We should wait for 2015' Q1 numbers. If they remain high, gz to Blizzard but I'll be dissapointed by players' gaming expectations.
  1. McNeil's Avatar
I'm actually suprised, thats quite a lot more than what MoP brought back (900k vs 3.4 million). I guess one of the biggest reasons is the free 90 boost, I know a lot of people who wouldn't even bother with the game if they haven't one. Now the question is if WoD will keep that 10 million subs.
