Deckard Cain
Deckard Cain was announced as the next hero this week! As a melee support hero, Deckard helps his team by controlling the battlefield and debuffing enemies. He is scheduled to go on the PTR "in the next couple of weeks".

Click below for a full overview of his skills and talents:

Heroes Brawl of the Week, April 6, 2018: Deadman’s Stand (Heroic)
The Deadman's Stand cooperative brawl returns this week, but on Heroic difficulty! Do you have what it takes to stand against the swarm?

Rules:
  • At the beginning of the Brawl, your team will have the following roster of Heroes to choose from:
    • Warrior: Artanis, Arthas, Blaze, Garrosh, Rexxar, Sonya, Varian, Zarya
    • Support: Brightwing, Li Li, Lt. Morales, Lucio, Tassadar, Rehgar, Uther
    • Specialist: Azmodan, Gazlowe, Sgt. Hammer, Nazeebo, Probius, Xul
    • Assassin: Falstad, Greymane, Gul'dan, Illidan, Jaina, Junkrat, Kael'thas, Kel'Thuzad, Raynor, Thrall, Valla, Zul’jin
  • Player Death:
    • When a Hero dies, they can be resurrected by Allies after a short channel time.
    • If all players die, the mission is failed.
  • Players start at Level 10 and have access to their full talents with a few exceptions (i.e. Bribe)
  • Enemy Zerg Heroes will periodically assault your base and will drop new active items exclusive to Deadman’s Stand and Escape from Braxis.
  • Survive the onslaught, protect your base, and buy enough time for Mira Han to cleanse the infection if you want to win this Brawl and save Deadman’s Port!

Rewards
  • Complete one match of Deadman’s Stand (Heroic) to earn a Loot Chest!

Find out more about the Heroes Brawl game mode on our Heroes Brawl site; and as always, you can find more information on this week’s Brawl by clicking the Brawl Info button at the bottom of the play screen when preparing to queue for the Brawl game mode.

Blue Posts
In the wake of Deckard's reveal on Thursday, a few of the developers took to reddit to clarify and comment on community concerns.

Sorry about that. As a consolation... his hearth animation is him creating a town portal to go back to the hall of storms. So the lore is there (Blizz_KinaBREW)

As currently written, his level 13 ([D] Ancient Blessings Activate Fortitude of the Faithful to empower nearby allied Hero Basic Attacks for 8 seconds, causing them to deal an additional 80 damage in an area and heal for 120 for each Hero hit) is a better Bloodlust on some heroes/hilariously broken.
I've seen a lot of discussions about this talent so far but I wanted to chime in and let everyone know that it does have a 1 second cooldown between AOEs. (BlizzKyle)

Deckard Cain has the most oddly satisfying ability icon design
Awesome to hear! It just seemed to make sense as I was making his icon set. I'm happy that the visual association between the gems and the horadric cube is being seen. (BlizzJohnny)

Cain is fine and all, but could we please get a balance patch?
Hey everyone,

We're already working on our regularly scheduled balance patch (two weeks after a major release) which means we should have something for you next week baring any unforeseen circumstances.

While we occasionally tweak balance outside of our normal balance patches, spinning up hotfix patches is actually quite expensive in terms of dev time since it takes away from other things we have in progress. That doesn't mean it will never happen (eg. Maiev) but just trying to set expectations when it comes to how often we tweak balance. We also don't want to shift the meta every week by changing things too often since that makes things more volatile and comes with its own set of frustrations. (Blizz_AKlontzas)

Heroes of the Storm PAX East Panel: Inside the Forge

What: Be the first to learn how the lore of Heroes of the Storm will add to the larger Blizzard universe! Join the Heroes of the Storm development team to discuss the magic behind creating characters that leave a lasting impression and get a front row seat for the introduction of one of the most unlikely Heroes from Blizzard’s history to join the Nexus yet.
Where: http://www.twitch.tv/pax2
When: April 5, 9:30AM PDT / 6:30PM CEST
Who:
  • Jeff Cannata [Moderator]
  • Matt Villers [Lead Hero Designer]
  • Kevin Johnson [Creative Content Lead]
  • Kaeo Milker [Production Director]

Deckard Cain
  • There's a lot of nostalgia for Cain, lots of people wanted him
  • He is canonically a narrator, not a fighter
  • Initial idea was to make him cast spells like a mage, due to his Horadric background, but it didn't fit well
  • His abilities are more tactical in nature
  • Despite Cain being dead in the lore, the Nexus is a magical place that allows for "snapshots" of heroes that might be dead otherwise
  • Deckard Cain is a "setup/support healer"
  • You are rewarded for thinking ahead, potentially supporting multiple lanes with Healing Potions
  • Enemies can see potions, but not attack them
  • They knew early on that he would be a support hero. Narrowing it down took more effort though
  • They don't want supports to play whack-a-mole with health bars. More interaction, moment-to-moment decisions
  • Cain's "Stay A While And Listen" heroic plays a track of him actually beginning to tell a story
  • Deckard Cain will be on the PTR in the next few weeks

Lore of The Nexus
  • Heroes has been a mix of other universes, borrowing lore from all of them
  • But the Nexus has its own lore! The team has created a lot of places, each with its own unanswered questions
  • What is the Nexus? It is an actual place. First hint was the trailer shown at last Blizzcon with the portals over Dragon Shire
  • There are more realms out there
  • The heroes are a wild card in the power struggle between realm lords
  • The original battlegrounds are entirely Nexus-based. The announcers for those maps are the realm lords
  • The skin descriptions are rooted in this lore
  • The developers want to tell a linear story across multiple content drops throughout the year, starting this month
  • Ravencourt (home of Cursed Hollow, Haunted Mines, Towers of Doom) is the first location for this story
  • A lot of the story will be out-of-game, but they will also have in-game story
  • Rise of the Raven Lord, the first ever Heroes of the Storm comic, is coming this month!

Q&A
  • When are we getting the Kevin announcer?
    • Kevin is ready and willing! Team will see what they can do
  • Who is in charge of Umbra-Orgrimmar?
    • There's a lot more story to tell
  • Cain has a Carbot-inspired talent
  • How difficult was it to balance Cain?
    • Design teams work together as the hero progresses, trying to make sure mechanics are balanced
  • Have you considered introducing the Raven Lord as a playable character?
    • For now they're focusing on just heroes. Heroes and realm lords are widely different. Realm lords are almost demigod-like. Would be an interesting challenge
  • Murky is a hero that relies on other teams not knowing how to deal with Murky and thus sees no pro-play. Anything coming for Murky?
    • Fair feedback. Can't announce anything right now
  • Are you guys considering ARAM as a main gamemode?
    • They're always watching. Bringing it in as brawls more often
  • Will Heroes have more things from the cinematic team?
    • They are planning to bring more to the visual medium, making it feel like Heroes at its core. Still trying to figure out how to properly tell the stories
  • Will we get updated hero kill interactions?
    • They want to update them as much as they can. It's a complex process, every new hero creates new ripples. The team is working as hard as they can

Support Ending for DX9 and the 32-bit Heroes Client
DirectX9 and the 32-bit Heroes client will no longer be supported from July of this year. If you're still running an older system, now might be a good time to look for an upgrade.

DirectX has had several major releases since DX9, and the vast majority of players in the Heroes community are now running the 64-bit version of the game, along with DirectX11 or higher.

Once support ends, Heroes of the Storm will no longer run for players who are attempting to use the 32-bit game client or DirectX9. Please also note that while the 64-bit Heroes client might still be playable on some machines using DirectX10, this may not be the case for all configurations, which is why we recommend that all our players upgrade to at least DirectX11.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. If you‘re not already using the 64-bit Heroes of the Storm client and DX11 or higher, we encourage you to consider making the switch prior to July of this year, which is when we aim to go live with the planned changes.
