Free Character Transfers Now Available For Some Realms

If this service is available on your realm, you’ll access it in the Services section of the Shop on your character selection screen for that realm.

this requires sitting through a 2 hour queue lol

"Realm to realm character transfers take time to complete, and the duration is higher when more players are using the service.
You cannot log in to your character until the migration has completed."

Gee, thanks for nothing Blizzard. How is this a fix, who would want to be unable to play their main character for possibly days at the start of an expansion...at least leave the option to move available for 6 months or so, so people can get around to doing it when it takes less time and there aren't as many things to miss as right now...

I am on a dead server and it says "HIGH".

I cannot image the "medium" and "low" servers.
I bet 30 days later, these servers are completely empty.

and @MrPaladinGuy I have done transfers in the past and it says 5-10 hour estimated time but realistically it gets done within 2 hours at the most. I would suggest if you plan on taking advantage of this to transfer all but 1 character to the other server and do the last character right as you are logging off for the night so everything is over there by the time you log back on the next day or whenever you log in next.

Is there actually a queue on stormrage? I haven't seen one. Then again, I never log off and have been no lifing since release, lol.

Anyone know what servers are included on this list of free transfers? Two of the 4 listed here are full servers and the other two are listed as high. None of them have a free character transfer option available to them.

Off to join The Venture Co Horde, so I can have them on the same RP-cluster as my Alliance server (Defias Brotherhood).



(The shortest transfer took 14 minutes, the longest 45 minutes, because I had to use up my pending race swap to change my beautiful BElf Paladin into an ugly Tauren first. Couldn't just transfer without using it. Am willing to pay another race change to swap it back though. Free money for Blizzard)

Remember, if you want a free name change, make sure you occupy the new realm with a newly created character with the same name so you can rid yourself of the old one (I very much used that on nearly all mine)

Blizzard give ot something for free, which they don't have to do and people still act entitled and complain. Blizzard shouldn't even bother in the future.

Finally Blizzard is reacting and that's very positive, we've been discussing this for days that it would be the best solution for all the over populated server, to the people that still complain , just stop .

That could not be possible. How can you be on a "high" server and say its dead? The biggest realms - Moon Guard, Wyrmrest Accord are "High" Population realms for example. Either you playing on the faction with the lowest population on your realm or there is something more to this.

Like I completely understand, but there are high pop realms that have not had que's as far as I remember since launch like Stormrage and Zul'jin (two popular high pop realms) so not being able to transfer to either of those is pretty idiotic. Especially since Area 52 is one of the worst contender's atm for it. Not trying to complain for the sake of complaining but that's the only problem I see within this service.

The whole point of this service is to get people off these realms onto other realms. Your argument is to get people to transfer to these realms completely against what Blizzard is trying to do in the first place by doing these free transfers.

Yeah, no, I deliberately chose Area52 because it has a stable player population. I literally made entirely new characters (first time I'm playing Horde for an expansion), specifically on Area52 because I'd like to have plenty of options to choose from when it comes to finding groups and guilds for content.

I'll take the 15 minute to 2 hour queues now, cause plenty of people will play significantly less once the shiny newness wears off.

Exactly this happened in the past and some friends did the free character transfer only to regret it after some time because they ended on a dead server.
