    6870 vs 7770!?

Hey guys, I'm putting together a new PC for my birthday in a couple of months, and I was wondering which would be the better card? This is what I'm getting so far:

    AMD Bulldozer FX-8120 @ 3.1Ghz (8 Core)
    ASUS M5A78L-M/USB3
    PATRIOT VIPER RED V3 16GB 1600Mhz
    SEAGATE 2TB SATA3, 6Gb/s
    750W PSU - CIT Gold & 12CM Fan
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Rev.2 CPU Cooler

Then of course... Which GPU? Or a better one that's within that price range?

    Thanks guys, Josh.

If this won't be happening for a couple of months, I'd probably wait to even pick out parts if I were you... Last I checked, new CPUs and GPUs are expected as early as March.

Also, 750W is overkill for that PC, way overkill, you don't need more than 450W, 500W at the most.

6870 no doubt, the 7770 barely differs from the 5770 and 6770.

Well, the PC comes standard with 650W, would that do? It's just the card I heard was very energy hogging.

650W is still overkill, but the lower the better (assuming it is a high quality power supply)... Either way, neither the 6870 or 7770 pull much electricity...

Also get a intell CPU, more cores doesn't mean it's better.

It also doesn't help that modern games suck enough to not support more cores.

Well, there are programs such as Large Address Aware that allow games the use of all cores. My friend uses it, and the results are amazing. A good 30fps on some games.

I have an xfx 7770 and its treated me well so far, first "real" card...for a hundred dollars it was a good deal.

I know its a decent card... but... I was looking at which was better. There is another build I was looking at:

    550W PSU - 12CM Quiet Fan
    Intel Core i5 4 Core 2500K 3.3Ghz 6MB L3 CACHE
HEATSINK/FAN FOR CPU INCLUDED (Possible upgrade if needed)
ASUS P8Z77-V LX With NEW Z77 Chipset
    8GB DDR3 1600Mhz - PATRIOT VIPER V3 RED Performance/Gaming RAM
    2TB (2000GB) SATA2 - 7200 RPM & 32MB Cache
    AMD Radeon HD 6870 1GB OR nVIDIA GeForce GTX560 1GB (+£70.00)

    What we thinking?

Well, might as well ask, what games are you trying to max out? The 7770 does ok in WoW around 30 to 40fps in cities and crowded areas with everything on ultra at 1920x1080res, even the AA and all that

Is that some site collecting your computer? What is your budget, mind find something for a good price if you can build yourself.
    8700K (5GHz) - Z370 M5 - Mugen 5 - 16GB Tridentz 3200MHz - GTX 1070Ti Strix - NZXT S340E - Dell 24' 1440p (165Hz)

Not to mention there is no point in buying an FX-8120, both since it is AMD's last generation, replaced by the FX-83xx series and not to mention on top of that, it's trumped easily by Intel's i5s.

I haven't heard anything about new CPUs coming... O_o

CiT PSU's are HEC Orion OEM and should be avoided. Pay more attention to the quality of the unit then on how many watts it says it has. Cheap PSU's won't give you anywhere near what they say they will.

...Large Address Aware makes games utilize more ram. Not more cores.

I'm guessing he meant a 30 fps increase.

Right so at the moment, its a competition between these two

    550W PSU - 12CM Quiet Fan
    Intel Core i5 4 Core 2500K 3.3Ghz 6MB L3 CACHE
HEATSINK/FAN FOR CPU INCLUDED (Possible upgrade to Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Rev.2 CPU Cooler If needed)
ASUS P8Z77-V LX With NEW Z77 Chipset OR GIGABYTE Z77-D3H With NEW Z77 Chipset
    8GB DDR3 1600Mhz - PATRIOT VIPER V3 RED Performance/Gaming RAM
    2TB (2000GB) SATA2 - 7200 RPM & 32MB Cache
AMD Radeon HD 6870 1GB OR nVIDIA GeForce GTX560 1GB

    OR

    AMD Bulldozer FX-8120 @ 3.1Ghz (8 Core)
    ASUS M5A78L-M/USB3
    PATRIOT VIPER RED V3 16GB 1600Mhz

either the 7770 or 7850, depending on the price. at newegg, the 6870 and 7850 are basically the same price but the 7850 is significantly more powerful.

if you told us what games you like to play and how much you love your eyecandy, that would help.

I wouldn't get the FX-8120 as it has some of the weakest individual cores. This is usually only a problem for higher end graphic cards on "certain" games so if you already got it no big deal. I would most definitely rather get a FX-6300 tho as it's multitasking capabilities should be way more than enough.

Edit (again): didn't see your last post, i5 are excellent processors as well.

    i5-2500k/3570K > FX-6300

    Observe: http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/699?vs=288
And the i5-3570K is a 5-10% increase with better support for higher clocked RAM than the i5-2500K... you do the math. ;P

If he can afford it, the 7850 would be the best option, but he's been mostly saying 6870 or 7770, which I would say 6870.

    Right, back to this post.

So, first of all... Which PC out of these two?

    550W PSU - 12CM Quiet Fan
    Intel Core i5 4 Core 2500K 3.3Ghz 6MB L3 CACHE
HEATSINK/FAN FOR CPU INCLUDED (Possible upgrade to Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Rev.2 CPU Cooler If needed)
ASUS P8Z77-V LX With NEW Z77 Chipset OR GIGABYTE Z77-D3H With NEW Z77 Chipset

    2TB (2000GB) SATA2 - 7200 RPM & 32MB Cache
AMD Radeon HD 6870 1GB OR nVIDIA GeForce GTX560 1GB

    OR

    AMD Bulldozer FX-8120 @ 3.1Ghz (8 Core)
    ASUS M5A78L-M/USB3
    PATRIOT VIPER RED V3 16GB 1600Mhz
    SEAGATE 2TB SATA3, 6Gb/s
    750W PSU - CIT Gold & 12CM Fan
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Rev.2 CPU Cooler
AMD Radeon HD 6870 1GB OR nVIDIA GeForce GTX560 1GB

And then... are there any price up/downgrades that would benefit me? I'm considering the 7850, only £30 more
