[rumor] Is Blizzard making a Diablo MMO?

Blizzard has been hiring lots of people for "Diablo". They've been hiring artists, animators, engineers, a game designer and they are looking for a Game Director. The Game Director posting asks for MMO experience (under the pluses section as shown below)....

    https://careers.blizzard.com/en-us/openings/o8Rq5fwe

TO FIX WOW:1. smaller server sizes & server-only LFG awarding satchels, so elite players help others. 2. "helper builds" with loom powers - talent trees so elite players cast buffs on low level players XP gain, HP/mana, regen, damage, etc. 3. "helper ilvl" scoring how much you help others. 4. observer games like in SC to watch/chat (like twitch but with MORE DETAILS & inside the wow UI) 5. guild leagues to compete with rival guilds for progression (with observer mode).6. jackpot world mobs.

Legion might as well be a Diablo MMO.

Think Dark Souls Diablo and Destiny/Borderlands in one.

Nice one. One could make a joke that WoW borrowed Diablos ideas so now Diablo is borrowing WoWs.

D4 or a different spin on the Diablo brand. MMOs aren't a growing game style, take far too much development and money to do. The risk is just too high for little reward. Diablo also doesn't have one of the things that made WoW great, tons of lore and things to build upon. Diablo has killed of a lot of names over the game and is pretty one note when it comes to what you are doing. How many times can you keep getting people to chase the kill diablo or another demon rabbit down the hole in a MMO setting.

Well, if anyone can create the next successful MMO, it would certainly be Blizzard.

Highly doubt it. WoW already has enough competition out in the MMO field as it is now. Why would Blizzard want to add to said competition?

Course, the original D3 (by the now-shuttered Blizzard North) was planned to be a MMO, so who knows.

I think this is for Diablo 3 3.0 expansion personally.

Since Diablo 3 is pretty much a miniature MMORPG at this point... yeah
We're all newbs, some are just more newbier than others.

No, that's for the Diablo 2 remake or Diablo 4. They already thought about Star Craft and Diablo for an mmo when Titan failed but for obvious reasons it does not have enough content or variety to make an mmo.

The only possible IP they can make an mmo out of now is Overwatch, and judging from the way they're fleshing out lore now, it looks like that's what they're gearing up for.

We aren't chasing the same 1 or 2 bosses in WoW, there are various villians and motives for things. Diablo is a much more bland story, lacking the wealth of pre made lore from the RTS games.

I think it will be a Elder Scrolls type first person Diablo game. Open World and full of dungeons.

They are definitely doing something, hence the no expansion or announcement of one.

They put out a class alone with some new environments/monsters. Seems clear they started making another expansion and then something better caused them to ditch that and now have put out what would of been new expansion stuff

Also some people from WoW left to work on an "unannounced" project and WoW took a ton of stuff from Diablo in Legion. Kinda like the Diablo team was like "Here we don't need it anymore"

They can flesh out the Diablo lore quite a bit. We know almost nothing about most of the classes. The Amazon lands, the Necromancer lands, the Assassin lands, etc. D2 really only showed us a lot of Barb lore which as it turned out surrounded the Worldstone.

No one is crazy enough to make new MMOs - there's no market

Like blizzard did in the past they check what is doing well on the market and improve on it.

I see Diablo going more toward: Dark souls, Witcher3 (so a solo game with maybe instanced group content 5m)

Yes. Wow is slowly but steadily becoming a Diablo MMO

They could grow as any story can, but they don't have people already invested in story lines nor do they have multiple built in ideas to platform off of. Diablo is a push to kill Diablo each game, minor demons that server him and from time to time a sibling of his or something corrupted by him. Many have been killed off leaving us with less and less established story to build from. Even if none of that were true as stated MMOs are a very expensive to make, both in time and money, format that is a dying breed. Then for the cherry on top, Blizzard is not going to offer up competition for it's own cash cow in WoW. It goes against their own interests to have 2 MMOs at once.
