It seems weird to me that people would go out of their way to dislike something that doesn't affect them in the slightest. The only way vanilla WoW could prove to be a threat to retail is when its getting popular enough that retail may lose a lot of players, which could hinder their guild progression or something. But if your guildies will move on to vanilla servers full time then they might've not liked playing retail that much after all. These servers have not taken any resources from retail yet still people continue disliking these servers. If your afraid of vanilla's succes, then you could rather try to make retail better instead of trying to take down its possible competitor. Give proper feedback to the devs like the vanilla community is going to do as of now. There will be a lot of different suggestions, but thats up to Blizzard to brainstorm and to find out what the best approach for their game is.

Vanilla compared to Legion (soon to be TBA) is a whole different game. And I expect people to play them for different reasons, which will result into healthy playerbases for both versions.

For me it's not necessarily about liking or disliking Vanilla, it's more that I personally just don't see how the server could have long term sustainability if it stayed static/ locked in time. Meaning there could be a time, at some point, where someone could literally have done absolutely everything in the game and have nothing more to do. Granted they could still play if they wanted to, and doing this could take a LONG time...but eventually every single piece of content could be consumed. Most people hit a wall before they reach that point.

It would be like a permanent content drought, and we see how that affects sub numbers on the live version, how are they going to cope with that on something like this that is SUPPOSED to have a content drought?

I don't care whether they implement it or not. I'm looking forward to checking it out actually, but have very little vested interest in whether it succeeds or fails. I'm more of an observer on this and am interested in seeing where it goes from here.

It is very simple... these people are scared to death. Scared that Classic will indeed become very popular and they will lose those people that have been forced to play with them. They know that on a server where your reputation makes or breaks your gaming experience, that they will have to be a decent human being and actually PLAY with other people.

They want to keep their solo content, their welfare legendaries, their pet battling, ignore professions, not care about gems and enchants... and still know that there will be oodles of people forced to group with them because Blizzard made the game such that they can get away with poor behavior.

Yep... they are scared little kiddies... the same ones who had to have support dogs and safe places when Trump was elected. They cried and had tantrums, the sjy is falling, and such.... but here it is one year later and we are all still here.

The same will be for Classic... it will be a SMASH hit once again... and if they want to enjoy the game, they will have to play it.

I don't hate vanilla, I am extremely excited for it. I hate the few people in the "Legacy Server" community that spam anything blizzard related with "Legacy" and the death and rape threats to people that disagreed with them or sounded like they disagreed.

No this is not the majority of that community, but the few that did this is the face of that community

I'm sorry but this fucks me off more than anything. If you want to be anti vanilla because you think the game is shit. Fine. If you want to be anti vanilla because you think its going to be shit. Fine. If you want to be anti vanilla because you hate everything about it. Fine. If you are anti vanilla because you believe it increases the chance of contracting cancer. Fine.

But can you please fucking stop presuming I'm a confused idiot. You people really fuck me off dictating what you think, I think. I'm more than capable to decide why I want to play it

This is also a valid concern I have. I can see the hype for it now but once people have hit that wall, what do they do? They quit.

To play devil's advocate, I cannot possibly imagine Blizzard needing to make many servers for Classic. It's not going to cost as much monthly for them to run it as it does live. Also, they won't be updating it. So no development time will really go into it once it's up. That will cut costs a ton.

So even if a big surge of players come and play for a month and then leave in droves, the cost per month would probably be so low that keeping the servers up would not be a concern. Not to mention if they have a classic server of their own, they really can and will do everything to make sure private servers are shut down, which in the long run will force people who want that experience to fork up the fee to play their official servers.

Honestly why are we still having this conversation? What the fuck does it matter to either side?

Vanilla lovers got what they wanted.

    Naysayers were wrong.

Can we move on now? Why does this singular topic have to flood the forums in its many forms?

lol it will be a "smash hit"?

Do you think if Nintendo released Mario Brothers on the Wii Switch, they would sell as many copies as when they released it years ago? Nope. The funny thing is that you can buy some classic nintendo games on the Wii U and Switch, and they still don't sell well.

Also, your signature is hilariously delusional thinking.

He never said ALL people who want Vanilla are this way. If anything, you inserted yourself into his equation and went insane all on your own accord. Kind of weakening your side of the argument, if you ask me. What is it about this version of the game that turns you into a rapid animal foaming at the mouth any time someone speaks ill of it? Why do you feel the need to be so overly defensive about it?

Add something constructive to the conversation. Real concerns. Real points. Sitting here and typing fuck twelve times and comparing a video game to cancer is not really making me want to listen to anything you have to say with any real legitimacy.

Vanilla in it's original form sucked ass.

Though making it is a win-win situation for everyone, haters of vanilla and fans alike.

Either it's made and it's incredibly fun and wow gets more players (and funding) OR it's made , it's boring as hell and we can put "vanilla was the best" to bed forever.

More than likely it will be in the middle a wow vanilla server with lots of tweaks, fans will hate it for not being pure vanilla and haters will hate it for not being live.

We just want you, vanilla autists, to leave us alone. In 90% of cases it's YOU people who try to stir shit at any given opportunity.

#1) There have been a small number of people who have been very vocal pro-vanilla a-holes on the forums over the years. They constantly talk about how much WoW sucks, how it's going to die soon, how much better it used to be, etc. I'm sure you can understand how that is alienating. And it's human nature that when we are annoyed by a person, we have a tendency to dislike what they advocate.

#2) It is hard for many to understand what the appeal is with vanilla. It may seem senseless. And when we cannot empathize with other people, it is human nature to be very dismissive of their opinions and desires. And the more strongly those are put forward, the greater the reaction will be in opposition.

#3) And some people are just contrarian and/or mean spirited and just want other people to be miserable.

Those are the top 3 reasons I can think of.

Maybe you will enjoy it, but many people who want Vanilla servers right now won't.... and that's the point.

It's already obvious that this is the case tbh. People are already trying to "improve" Vanilla WoW by demanding X and Y... even if it's something like the Transmog-system.

The small % of people who "we" believe will enjoy it nonetheless isn't worth it.

    Because they played it.

Vanilla was great 13 years ago. It's just a waste of time in today's age. Vanilla crybabies are allready fighting on "What is vanilla" and "what QoL will blizard give us". That's stupid, everyone want their own version of vanilla. Nobody will be happy no matter what Blizzard do.
And once it launch, if it ever will (hint: it most likely wont), the same crybabies will be here flooding us of "Classic is shit, true vanilla was so much better".

Nostalgia can never be relived, that's the whole point of it.

This can be turned around towards the Vanillites over QoL changes to their precious baby. It goes both ways. And people who want vanilla are a minority as well.

We don't dislike Vanilla. We do however get annoyed when private server normies who played heavily pirated and modded Vanilla in 2012 start flapping their gums about "Vanilla experience".

I think are large factor some people will fail to realize quickly is how much of a time sink Vanilla was. As the player base aged we now have less and less time to devote to the game (well some of us). I used to spend 4-5 hours a night raiding and farming. Now, maybe an hour - hour and a half just questing, maybe a 5-man, maybe a BG 3-4 days a week. I would hate to imagine how long it would take to level a toon to 60 only playing as much as I do. I will certainly make a couple of toons on the Classic server but I can't say how much actual time will be spent playing it.
    I click my spellbook.

Ill go touch Vanilla again but not full time. I got that experience before and I wanna do current stuff and that on the side. However depending on how they handle it and what they do may make me go harder on it especially in regard to Atiesh and Corrupted Ashbringer. If there are ways to bring credit back to the base account then im all in gungho.

This is also another one, I was in a rough patch in High School when it came out. Freshman year. I hated life and everyone around me so WoW was a perfect escape. I had tons of hours to pour into Classic. However that is no longer the case now. Reason I bring up the past a little is because some people do not realize that it was a HUGE time sink, biggest time sink game I ever played.

Blizzard have NOT done it, they have said they are working on it. Even that is a stretch. Also, there is no proof that people will like it, at all....so......awkward?
