Vidme shutting down on December 15th at noon PST

    https://medium.com/vidme/goodbye-for-now-120b40becafa

TL;DR: They couldn't compete with Youtube and Facebook.

    • New sign-ups and uploads will be disabled effective today.
    • Existing videos will be playable and exportable from your video manager until December 15th at noon PT, at which point they will be permanently deleted from the Vidme servers.
    • All paid channel subscripitions will be suspended immediately, and subscriber-only videos will be exclusively accessible by their video owners.
    • Any outstanding earnings will be paid out upon verification within 60 days.
    • All Vidme paid subscriptions will cease as of today, and subscribers will no longer be billed.

It was one of the go to sites people were told to head to due to youtubes demonetization of content.

There hasn't been any decent sites that have yet to replace youtube, due to A: youtube being a massive beast with still the latest amount of stuff to look up, B: Vid me offered no monetization, C: the only ones that flocked to it were those effected by said demonetization with a poorer setup and viewing.

You could. It wasn't the sites main function, but I imagine how many people here would have known it.

Next to impossible to get any real financial backing or add revenue on a site that is filled with pirated goods.

Vimeo will not go down. Professionally, it's the superior video hosting website. Also the way you can collaborate with reviewers is amazing, and you can even replace videos with updated versions without having to create a new link. Vimeo is AMAZING. If someone thinks all it is for is streaming videos like youtube, they don't really know what they're talking about.

I don't think I've ever watched anything on vidme and the only thing I've watched in vimeo are training videos. YouTube is pretty much it for me.

Vidme sounds very familiar. I feel it was in a lot of streaming sites as a host for shows I've watched over the years.

His other stuff is worth watching if you can keep up with him intellectually (not always easy).
