Growing personal instagram account

I'm currently at 150 followers and I'm using IG for about 4 months. I get 50 likes at most.

One my friend (female) has around 1200 followers but they are mostly foreigners (we are in Croatia). She gets around 200 likes per photo.

I noticed that she likes some photos of people that she doesn't follow, but they don't even have hashtags! I was trying to find a connection and noticed that these people follow some bigger pages that she follows too.

Could it be the way? Follow a bigger page and like photos of people who follow that page, too?

I've never used Instagram so perhaps this doesn't apply, but all else being equal, a female will almost always get more likes than a male.

Easiest way to get popular on instagram is be a midly attractive girl, throw in some nerdy references occasionaly to attract the neckbeards, and there you go!

Also ...... do you have actual content posted ? ... like beside 3 selfies.

If you post interesting stuff and keep doing so, people will come they not going to follow you due to a few selfies.

If you got a cat or dog that are remotely cute or funny ..... well you won the IG game.

Yeah, I post actual content. I've got 12 posts. And I did grow from like 60 followers in the beginning to 150 now. I guess I should post dog pics sometimes.

No. Not really directly. But if you are say a photographer having a big and exposed Instagram with your work can really go a long ways. Also some brands will pay you once you get a lot of followers to expose the brand. Now these are extremes and not normal at all. But one can dream.

Instagram Thots are nice to look at, but I wouldn't want to meet them in person. Don't be an IG Thot.

After a while, they are not even nice to look at anymore. They become the "blank wall" if you know what I mean....

I feel like that's more on me for "desensitizing" myself to a people who look like they are only made for sin.

Thing is .... IG is more then boobs and pretty faces .... i know some are not aware of this.

For me i use IG to follow restaurants and chefs around the world both that i know IRL and strangers, working as a chef myself it is interesting to follow what others do in there daily work, yes my IG is 90% food and 10% people having fun.

People can actually be on IG without being *pretty faces* and this is where it gives meaning to be there, if you are there to find pretty faces to look at or a half boob ...well there is better places far that.

Following people with a specific hobby or job on the other hand can be useful.

Yes but a deep desire for 'likes' derives from the same place. The fact that (s)he's dissatisfied with "only" getting 50 likes a photo is pretty disgusting, particularly considering it's only a personal account.
