It has backfired by keeping our birth rate high and supplying the workforce with much needed skilled and unskilled labor? Illegal immigration is an inevitability, unless the US turns into North Korea or a failed state in Sub-Saharan Africa. You want people from around the world to come to your country, it brings productivity and gives us an upper hand on our trading partners and adversaries.

Basically, yes. This really has been the timeline of white segregationists and racists since desegregation. Once the federal government came to the protection of minority populations, and has increasingly done so since the CRA and VRA, white conservatives have been incensed that they are no longer sole beneficiary of the government largess and its bounty. This is why conservative and libertarian think tanks exploded into fruition, via the monies of rich racists and segregationists during the civil rights era. Til this day, the institutions, the adepts, and the mediums which propagate the conservative and libertarian message, are all fighting for full restoration of white exclusivity and franchisement in all levels of government, lost to the "federal overreach" of the civil rights era.

I've "smuggled" cocaine and marijuana across state lines on multiple occasions in my college days, so technically, I'm a bigger criminal than 90% of DACA recipients, and I'm a pretty functional member of society today. At this point the GOP just needs to die, and reform itself. Hopefully the Trump impeachment will do it - split the Trumpsters from the honest GOP, with the latter slowly building it back up.

They'll have plenty of time after the 2018 and 2020 elections. The dems might have super-majorities in both by then.

It's not entirely @Taftvalue's fault, simply because we already know the Trump camp doesn't think particularly hard about any given point of policy. Especially considering that the GOP is doing their hardest to try and blur the lines between DACA and illegal immigration and reduce popular support for the former, or try and force the Democrats into appearing to be in support of illegal immigration.
