Age verification is fair enough.. though its not exactly top of the pile when your country s infrastructure is literally falling apart at the hinges (health in particular)

The real story is going to be how much money friends of the government make from the contracts to implement the system, given how much of a botch they've made with social services migration (and generally anything they touch which involves technology)

    "porn finds a way"

This lots problem as with just about anybody else is they don't stop there (they don't know how to)... there's good reason May's predecessor was in regular talks with China about ways to block content on the web when they were in power, the stakes are much higher than some over sized knockers.

Why legislating about alcohol then? Kids will get it anyway.
Its not a real age restriction as it will be easlily bypassed.

Hence why we need to regulate more and make sure the age restriction is properly enforced.

We'll deal with that when it comes I guess. As for now, we have an issue that needs to be regulated.

    Good.

Sorry, but the internet needs to be regulated. It has caused such damage to our culture and our young people. I say use AgeID for the whole internet. No internet until the age of 18. Fuck em and their 4chan bullshit.

Yes absolutely. Like voting, before accessing the huge potentials of the Internet, you need to be educated. You need to learn to process all the informations thrown at you.
There was another thread recently about age restrictions on the internet. I think that's a great idea. As you get 18, you get your card and your personal password. Till then, go out and learn how to think.

What if you use the internet as a learning tool? Hell, I've learned more from reading scientific articles online than I ever did taking Biology classes in High School.

exactly. I've learned more about the world and made more friends with the internet in the last 10 years then anything that came before. Those making the claim 'oh the worlds a worse place because of the internet' is are f**king morons.

You find simulated killings and gore stuff all across sites that are ONE CLICK away from google. Some of them are sponsored sites. Humoron, inhumanity, but even efuktare sites that can pop up from a video you click. They have gore in it but even snuff movies so people getting killed on camera or maybe pretending to.
Not that it matters cause no one came up with your previous point, it's something you created in your head that no one said.

You don't see the issue with kinky sex and drinking piss. Are you 12? No? Good than I don't give a flying fuck about you not seeing the issue with it. We're talking younger people. People whom this legislation is trying to address.
"It won't create the next school shooter"... quote of the century and we're in 2018 only.
Oh so it's ok? Sure it can lead to a disturbed interpretation of pretty much everything related to interactions with other people but ah sure it's going to be fine.

No, what it would be better is if you started thinking one second before replying. No one is censoring porn. We are talking about limiting access to minor. Exactly like you do with alcohol and other stuff.
It was a very simple point.

Children watch thousands of murders during their teenage years. You can see that in PG films you can show in the daytime.

That's a bigger issue than watching people have sex.

To try and ban the latter and ignore the former suggests an extremely disturbing and twisted lack of priorities.

There's such a weird perception among people that this generation of teens are somehow worse than previous generations when in actuality teen pregnancy is at a all time low, youth crime is at a 30-year low and statistically it has never been a safer to be a human being on this planet.

You consider age restriction for porn stepping stones to an orwellian society?..... ?
That's your own experience and to be honest I'm sorry for what you had to go through.

That's absolutely off topic and completely useless. There's nothing to add to that as its not part of the topic. Of course there's bigger problems. The scope of this discussion is limited to enforcing age restriction to porn material, not debating what's wrong with growing up in western society.

Definitely. People don't understand how valuable it is being able to access information instantly.

The point would be to attempt to stop under age kids who might not know what a vpn is. This change won't really affect people using it that much. It's just like when they tried to block torrent sites. it only stopped people who didnt know wtf they were doing.

What you just said is exactly like saying "teens are worse". So instead of talking about stuff people say let's talk about what's on paper. We're getting fatter, we're seeing a worrying push to extremes in terms of political involvement, we're seeing less interaction. If you want to make comparisons feel free. I don't really care who's better. I want to make sure kids grow in an environment that promotes healthy living, critical thinking and REAL social interaction.

Wow, another internet based law created by people who don't understand the internet. What a fantastic waste of everyone's time and money.

That outside the scope of this specific topic though. No one denies that.

Both literally fall under the definition of obscenity in British law, which is what we are talking about here, so no you don't get to cherry-pick stuff because you have some weird hang-up about sex.

You have to fix both or neither or you are sending kids this weird message that sex is taboo but violence is ok.

I don't think what your describing is a "weird perception", it seems to be the hardwired perception of every generation to think that the later generations are somehow lacking.

As to the topic at hand, guess I'll start looking into getting a decent VPN.
