It used to be but hasn't been since they added sports like football/soccer, hockey, basketball, etc, and since athletes in general started getting large sponsorships from retail companies (ie: paid to be an athlete).

Interestingly, it was never about "purity of the sport" or any other nonsense, it was about social exclusion. Only the upper crust were wealthy enough to pursue sports like this purely for fun. Anyone who had to get paid was by definition an unwanted plebe to be excluded.

That's right kids, you can be an Olympian if:
    • You can abuse nationalization rules to compete on the US , Venezuelan, Hungarian team
    • Have the money to compete in skiing events for 2 years
    • Have the money to only find competitions with less than 30 competitors
    • Place at least in that top 30 by never falling down
    • ??? Worst ski run in the 2018 Olympics ???
    • Profit

Gold goes to the fans expression at the 1:00 mark.
rich people can do things..... and in other news the sky is blue and the sun will rise tomorrow.

dunno what it has to do with diversity or anything tbh except something a rich kid did thats is kinda funny because it shows how under thought out women's sport selection is because of lack of numbers. you should see some of the women that represent my county in cricket a sport that docent even have many men that follow it.

and to head of the inevitable its not that they cant just if you have a small selection you have less likely to find the real top talent and develop it

It's not like the Olympics limit how many can attend per country. Look at the size of the USA's delegation.
Well this is clearly nonsense, unless you're suggesting that she's the thirtieth best freestyle skier in the world. The world's best do not attend every event, she turned up at events with fewer than 30 competitors to gain the ranking points to qualify. It's pathetic and there was somebody sat at home who couldn't go because of this rat.

The person 'sitting at home because of this rat' couldn't bother to appear at qualifiers. They wouldn't be going in any case without attending the exact same qualifiers.

Hate the game not the player, say what you want but all she did was work within the rules of the system. The hustle is strong with this one, its funny seeing how many Americans are upset that she did this when they do the same side hustle bullshit every day.

What does being white have to do with this? I would think it would be a lot easier to get on the Jamaican halfpipe team. Check your Jamaican privilege!

She found the loopholes and she put in the work to to find out how to be there, seems like a problem with the system. I say good for her figuring all that shit out and planning it.

Well this is wrong. I'm always amazed at the willingness of MMO-C posters to express an opinion on matters in which they are clueless. It's not a case of "not being bothered", it's simply that most athletes don't have the luxury of being able to self fund. This fraud has been able to attend the events she has because of daddy's money. Then we move on to the second part of your misinformed post, in that it isn't a case of attending the "exact same qualifiers" at all. There are a number of events that take place, you do not need to attend all of these, hell it isn't even possible to. She received 200 FIS points for "competing" and finishing 13th at an Event in China in December. While that was going on the best names in the sport were competing in America. Now obviously I get it, if people can't be bothered to complete in China and America at the same time then they definitely don't deserve to show up at the Olympics.

No, her parents had the money, that's what privilege is. To get to do something you have no real right to do because you have neither the skills nor commitment to do properly, but get to do anyway because money and contacts.

She won't have figured anything out at all, daddy's friends on Olympic Committee boards will have told her.

Just another reason why the winter olympics aren't worth funding. Shameful how much money these sports get in this country when the people who can afford to begin playing them can fund themselves. Meanwhile an actual popular sport like basketball gets nothing at all. Ridiculous.

These kinds of loopholes don’t exist by accident to be found by some kid like an Easter egg in a video game.

It's the olympics where people get paid for falling down a hill with pieces of fiberglass attached to their feet, and people complain about privilege?
    Speciation Is Gradual

She competed in the Olympics and you didn't.
