Honestly, 6 months to a year should've been the sentence, whether the kid was 15 or not. It's just not acceptable behavior from a teacher and sets a bad precedent when the sentencing is so lenient.

Pretty sure laws are not intended to be changed on a case by case basis, which is what you are saying is best. Then you have the issue of some judges being biased towards one sex or another, judges with different ideas as to how old someone should be before sex, judges that had a bad day, etc. Laws have to be specific about certain things.

I think one of my biggest problems with this is this line:

Had this been a male teacher this would have 100% been called grooming, and there would be serious legal implications. But for whatever reason, no matter how often this exact story is repeated female teachers almost always get off the hook for statutory rape.
