Not on Steam, requires internet connection, requires yet another store app/launcher, multi-player kinda of (but not totally) required. Got to say I'm not thrilled.... but we'll see. Wont be buying out of the gate, gonna wait for the dust to settle to see if its just a Destiny knock-off.
It is by caffeine alone I set my mind in motion. It is by the beans of Java that thoughts acquire speed, the hands acquire shakes, the shakes become a warning.

I feel like the fact that you're comparing a supposed MMO to a survival multiplayer is telling of said supposed MMO if anything. It's a failure on Destiny's (2) part, if it feels like a survival brawler and not like an MMO. Anyway, you can shoot monsters in an online multiplayer game where you also have character development, so if that fulfills the criteria of being a "knock-off", then sure.
@Mirishka Remember having to chase up steam because people were blatantly selling your mods you uploaded to nexus for free on steam as their own? Between that, places like /r/modpiracy and all the non nexus sites (mainly russian and chinese) sites releasing .exes claiming to be my mods made me decide i probably won't release mods again.
It all spawned from Bethesda and Steam trying to monetize it, i've read countless other people having the same thoughts over the past few years on the mod authors subforum.
This whole thing feels like they're trying to sell a pig in a poke, and keeping it off steam so they can make refunds as difficult as possible.
Like most games nowadays, I have the best of hopes for it... but the lowest of expectations.
I can't see myself purchasing this until they release it on Steam.... with a warm reception from the players that precede me. Or at least, a warm reception among the aspects of a game that I care about.
I'm pretty excited for 76. I've always wanted an online feature, and love the idea of playing with and against other players in the Fallout Universe. That being said, I still haven't pre-ordered it yet. I never pre-order (for obvious reasons), and will wait for the final reviews to come in. But my friends and I are ready to go!
ON WEDNESDAYS WE WEAR PINK
Cannot wait to play that game, will be there also co-op option so I can play together with friend?
zaric zhakaron has a good video talking about this.
basically, it will eventually release on steam, once they've rung out every last drip they can get from their own service. also, that it's not sending any message if you wait for steam purchase, you're just doing what they ultimately want.
Steam takes like 30% of the price for anything sold through their service. That's worth it to new developers for whom Steam presents a ready audience and advertisement as well as convenience of purchase. For AAA developers, though, it's a hefty chunk for a game that's likely going to be popular enough that people will buy it regardless of the storefront it's sold from. They gain very little. It's great when a game's popularity starts to flag, because you can appeal to a new demographic and especially when you're at the stage of dropping prices or putting out big sales, that's an attractive gain, at that point.
One of the big benefits of Steam is the Steam Workshop, but so far as I know, Skyrim and Fallout modding is still primarily focused on the Nexus sites, not on Steam Workshop. Things were cross-posted to that outlet, but that wasn't the most current and first updated outlet. Nexus was. So a lot of modders (myself, for instance) just use the Nexus, and ignore Steam Workshop entirely, for Bethesda games (there are others where it's been invaluable; I'm not criticizing Steam Workshop at all, here).
Honestly, the "not on Steam, don't care" thing is weird, to me. It's like saying "not being sold at Best Buy, not buying". I know Steam's convenient; I have 250+ games on Steam, I love Steam. But it isn't something I slavishly demand.
Hopefully Skyrim Together actually gets finished and released, even if its indefinitely buggy without support after launch
Im still skeptical of 76, not because I think the game will suck (honestly believe it will be amazing gameplay), I still have reservations about their anti-griefing mechanisms, and more importantly, their Skill system being tied to cards.
I get that they say you can only EARN cards through gameplay and leveling brackets, but I still don't believe they wont monetize it in a future content patch very soon after launch. Its happened way too often for previous games that utilize "Cards" for progression. Paladins (from Hi-Rez) comes to mind of a more recent company who started out fine but then switched to emphasize microtransactions with their progression system post launch.

And when they don't, exactly zero people who have raised those concerns will be in this thread, or any other thread, declaring how they were so wrong, and how happy they are about Bethesda not doing that, because it's much more fun to be negative and spread negativity than the opposite.
For example, with the CC and Bethesda.net mods, people still keep crying about how "Bethesda wanted" (note the past tense) "to rip people off with the paid mods", clinging on to something that isn't actually the case today, and nobody ever points out (aside from people like me who never complained about it in the first place) that no, their mod systems have not affected their games in any way or form, nor have they affected the modding scene in any way or form.
Trust me, I don't want them to start selling the perk cards. I also don't believe they will. I believe they'll sell cosmetic crap as MTX, and that's it. However, if they do start selling perk cards, I'll first take a long hard look at how that affects my gameplay (can I earn enough perk cards through playing without having to buy them and will the people who play with their wallet affect my gameplay negatively), and if there's something to complain about, I'll be among the first people to do so. Personally, I just don't see the point in pre-emptive complaining and airing all your personal fears when there's really nothing to suggest any of them will come true.
The perk cards just seem like such a complete non-factor in terms of monetization.
You get cards as you level up. You can pick cards directly when doing so, and get packs of randoms on top of that. Higher-level cards have level requirements, and there's caps to how many cards you can equip, in terms of power level. Every indication is that you can craft exactly the perk cards you want, at their maximum potential for your level, as you level up. It's diversifying your perk card collection, so you can change builds, that incentivizes getting more cards via packs. As presented, the systems just can't give you any real advantage even if they made perk card packs purchaseable. At best, they'll mean you can more-easily swap from a sneaky sniper to a heavy-weapons tank on the fly.
