Does a video game have to be rated M to be a big success?

Does a video game have to be M rated to have a good story?

Should there be games of AAA quality aimed at younger audiences or does the vast majority of parents don’t care?

Horizon Zero Dawn and Spider Man were huge successes!

Should Disney get back into game development and bring us the Pixar of video games?

You asked a question and then answered it in your own post.....

Also you do realize the biggest game on the market is currently rated T right?

You make it sound like he actually participates in his threads and doesn't just make 10 threads, gets banned, then starts the process over when the ban expires.

Really? You're really asking if a game rated below M can be a success?

    Here's a hint.

I'm just shocked he managed to make an entire post without adding a "I love Mass Effect!" in the middle of it with no context or relevance.

Hell, it actually would've been relevant to this thread.

Big success with wieners perhaps, but not much else.
They always told me I would miss my family... but I never miss from close range.

Back on topic, yes, the games must be M rated to have a good story, cuz fuck logic.
I wouldn't mind a solid rated M entry into the Mass Effect franchise. It couldn't be any worse than the recent entries... or *shudder* the 'movie'.

In what universe is Mass Effect not already rated M?

Since I unfortunately already took the bait of replying to a commander Sheppard thread...

    Mario
    Pokemon
    Fortnite
    Zelda
    Final Fantasy
    Uncharted
    Minecraft
    Spider-Man
    Horizon Zero Dawn
    WoW
    LoL
    Street Fighter
    Tekken

I could go on for days but yea this thread is beyond dumb.

Most of those games you listed are Rated M in many countries. But your point is fair.

I listed 13 games. I'm pretty confident 7 of them are not rated 17+ equiv in different countries. Feel free to prove your point if you can.

There is only a few even on the borderline like Uncharted that somehow has a lot of gun violence but gets a T rating due to lack of gore, cursing and being portrayed as a "good guy" vs "bad guy" scenario.

Also just to show my age a bit I remember when it was actually risky to make an M rated game. Even after Mortal Kombat.

It really wasn't until RE, MGS and the truly big one later on... GTA3 when people realized they could make an M rated game that could be as successful and reach the same market share as T and E.

But still even to this day it's safer to make T and E rated games. There is a reason Fortnite copied the BR meme genre and instantly became the biggest in the world, when it's a game parents won't question but is still targeted at adults as well that's when you have the truly massive hits like Mario, Pokemon, Minecraft and now Fortnite.

    17+ rated =/= to M Rated.

    Etc.

Of those games, the only ones not listed as M-Rated in Australia are Minecraft, Mario and Pokemon.

Actually, that's exactly what it is.

M ESRB rating = 17 years old to buy.

You listed games being 15 years old to buy which is closer to T then it is M.

You also said "many countries" and proceeded to examples of one country.

So, try again. Most of those games, being 17+ age gated in many countries. That is what you claimed.

...whereas yourself are using the ESRB.. which is one countries Ratings. Whereas PEGI which is broader and across Europe has a different system again. Such as Spiderman PS4 being rated Pegi 16 which is a Mature rating.

Mature/M-Rating also =/= Restriction of buying. In the Australian Rating system M is M rated. MA is Mature restricted.

So then you don't have examples of most of the list being 17+ rated in many countries I take it? Not gonna entertain the goal post moving. You tried to nit pick my post so I'm just returning the favor mate. Cheers.

Wait, people even so much as look at those ratings?
