This is a terrible comment. Let me explain why.

Trump is 2 years into his Presidency. Technically speaking, this Presidency is brand new. The UN Ambassador job is one of the most prominent foreign policy jobs in the US. It has long been the stepping stone to a (deputy or otherwise) National Security Adviser job, Secretary of State, US Trade Representative, or other big-seat foreign policy job.

This is not US Ambassador to Malta. This is a job that, historically, for a 2 year Presidency, there should be a significant line for, and it would be a line with experienced foreign policy hands in their mid 40s to mid 50s who are "on deck" for an even bigger job down the road.

The fact is, Trump is going with this person because just like the rest of his government, nobody wants to work for his administration. He can't recruit talent. He keeps relying on people doing second tours in jobs, or people who the offer is so good, they can't say no to.

The foreign policy hands that would be logical to be the next UN Ambassador? They're all waiting Trump out. They'll serve the next Republican President.

Donald Trump's 2 year old Administration is staffing itself like one in year 7, when everybody senior is on their way out and the Administration is stacking itself with lower-level or career folks just to get to the end of its term. It reminds me when Obama searched for a new Secretary of Defense after Chuck Hagel,he went through three names who a ll said no, before he "settled" on Ash Carter, who was a career Pentagon guy, and choice #4. Obama's top pick would have been the first female SecDef, but said no because she likely would have been offered the job under Hillary Clinton, at the start of a new Administration. And where would you rather serve... at the end of an Administration or the Start?


That this Fox News Anchor is getting this job has nothing to do with "the left". It illustrates the profound talent drought the Administration is suffering from as it struggles to fill jobs. Nobody career minded who has options would join this administration, which has the stench of death on it.
