Alabama newspaper editor is calling for the return of the Ku Klux Klan's night rides.

Links to the editorial in the article.

    https://www.cnn.com/2019/02/19/media...rnd/index.html

The editorial, with the shock headline "The Klan Needs to Ride Again," appeared in the February 14 edition of the Democrat-Reporter, based in Linden, Alabama.

"Time for the Ku Klux Klan to night ride again," begins the editorial, written by Goodloe Sutton. "Democrats in the Republican Party and Democrats are plotting to raise taxes in Alabama."

Sutton confirmed to CNN that he wrote the editorial but declined to provide any additional information.

He told the Montgomery Advertiser he urged the white supremacist group to "clean out D.C." via lynchings. "We'll get the hemp ropes out, loop them over a tall limb and hang all of them," Sutton told the newspaper.

He stressed that he wasn't calling for the hangings of all Americans, just the "socialist-communists."

"Seem like the Klan would be welcome to raid the gated communities up there," Sutton wrote in the editorial.
Beginning in the late 19th century, Klan members used night rides to terrorize blacks and their white allies with violence, including lynchings and fire-bombings.
Tsk tsk. But it's 2019, such things don't happen anymore, right (according to OT)?

i applaud him for speaking his mind, instead of being like the "IDW" that hides their ideals through big words and multiple extrapolations that sound sophisticated, he just goes and says whats on his mind. In fact thats far less dangerous than what the IDW is doing

I'm not against freedom of speech but saying that you want to lynch Democrats is certainly dangerous, people with other extremist views think that such public statements legitimizes their behavior and any actions that they may take towards harming others. The fact that this individual feels comfortable posting this opinion piece speaks volumes about our current political climate and how dangerous it is, even if it's an editorial for a small newspaper in Alabama.

Well that's a relief, he really knows how to set our minds at ease.

No one has actually been lynched and this guy probably isn't representing the current political climate. There's some Alex Jones-like people out there, it's despicable, but I don't think it's new or shocking.

If you think there aren't some outspoken crazies in a country as big as the US you don't have a good grasp on human nature. It doesn't mean it's a view held by any kind of majority.

Crazy dude writing for a TINY news paper. What he said is obviously incredibly stupid but I don't think it is significant of anything really. CNN likes drama when reporting on US politics so take what ever they say with a grain of salt.

People here are pretty weak on history, I doubt they know what night rides entailed. This has nothing to do with "free speech". It's straight up advertising terrorism.

Someone is getting a visit from the FBI.

Time for some old-fashioned American terrorism

It does not matter if it's held by some sort of majority to trigger a 'call to action' in some nutcases head. That's how you get the dudes who shoot up a church, send bombs across the country, commit arson, violently and non-violently harass people in the street.

Sweep 'small' acts under the rug is how they fester into bigger problems.

Absolutely and I am not trying to minimize the effects of polarization or Trumps emboldening rhetoric but even people who commit hate crimes would laugh at that dude. He is a clown. You could make the argument that he is helping in normalizing people less idiotic than he is though but that is a different topic.

if the rides are peaceful, sure go for it. but no masks. the public gets to know who you are. just like when you walk into a gas station or a grocery or a bank.

    take your hood off, cletus.

as long as no cops get involved (pretty sure they'll be apart of the night rides) I'd say go for it. As long as the hoods aren't bullet proof, they can keep them on. I think us in the south haven't really got to reconcile our differences with the invisible empire. I think Peace will eventually come, but hood or not a racist is a racist. Purge it out, I'm sure the black gun clubs will have a field day, and i think the Alt-right would finally get to live their fantasy.

This is what happens when the left call everyone and everything rascist, it desensitizes everyone to racism and makes whack jobs like this think nothing of adding another rascist thing onto the mountain of race bating news stories constantly shoved down our throats

Sure, but then why have freedom of speech? If all it takes is one crazy person to trigger a bunch of violence wouldn't it be better to not let the crazy people talk at all?
