I think people (especially you going by your recent posts) should look at themselves and become the change they want to see in the world. In recent years it’s become all to common for people to demand change from others while they themselves are unwilling to even acknowledge the depth of their own depravity and ignorance.

Because you’re out of touch with yourself you’re in a weak and vulnerable state and instead of fixing yourself you seek to fix the world around you while being unwilling to change yourself. You’re rigid and lack introspective and the system you seek mirrors that, which for you seems like a good thing is a nightmare for most people.

Is this website in a good state? Hell no, this forum is infested with mentally unstable (wo)man children of all ages, and the quality of the topics and discussions but more importantly the arguments brought forth have gone down drastically over the years. As most of the more stable and reliable posters have forsaken this place it has become very apparent that most of the remaining regulars have changed as much as the forum has which is a great indicator of their mental well-being. They’re mentally unstable yet when surrounded by enough normal people they can easily pretend to be normal through imitation but when the baseline drops so does their facade, because they don’t know what normal really is.

1 tumblr is not homogeneous. that perception is incredibly flawed, created by people who are not actualy ON tumblr. there is a sizable ultra conservative community there along with sizable offended by everything and everyone tumblr stereotype and everything in between.
2. I'm still baffled by tumblr actualy being voted as best community, because its anything but. it has a bunch of decent mini-communities within some of the larger communities, but as a whole, its about as toxic as 4 chan. like.... its supposed to be a place for porn and fandoms, but fandoms are just varying degrees of horrifying unless you heavily curate your fannish circle, and porn has mostly been deleted or hidden. and oh god, stepping outside of your heavily curated circle is like walking on thin strip of burning hot iron nails, with water on either side that is swarming with piranhas. you can't even make a whimsical post about Curiosity shut down, without being jumped on and god help you if you are brave enough to keep anon messages on.

For those who don’t know, tumblr has been nominated for a Webby for Best Community. This is something they’ve won for 7 years straight, which brings me to my question: how can we become a better community? In other words, how can we be more like tumblr and less like anti-intellectuals going off about “social justice warriors” because fuck books and academic research, right? So, to start off, I think awareness of others’ privilege is a step in the right direction. But we are gamers, so we like to flex our debate muscles and outwit our opponents. Frankly, I think the debating is getting old, and we need a unanimous agreement of what kind of site we are. Unfortunately, gaming has become about appealing to as many people as possible, so you have people with conflicting ideologies in the same space, which means arguments are bound to happen. Instead of on tumblr, where most people agree on things, swing a certain way.

Eh, the judges for the webby only goes by a narrow list. Tumblr removed a lot of the controversial stuff, not only pornographic but also a lot of art and artists, writers, poets, musicians and more. They boiled down their userbase say they can finally say, "This is good, we can control this better".

We don't really want MMO-champion to be like Tumblr, I mean, hey... You would almost have to delete half the topics in Off-topic right away.

I think people unfairly generalize all of Tumblr as being ultra-progressive and deeply political. There's an air of that underlying the general attitude of many of the users but when I still used it a few years ago, some of the blogs on there were the absolute funniest things that I've ever seen on the internet.

Tumblr users spend most of their time joking about light-hearted topics, and you can completely avoid any serious topics altogether. I don't use Tumblr, but it's not hard to see how focusing on lighter discussions can be less toxic than any site that has people that advocate for no consequence freedom of speech and nitpicky political discussions. Political discussions are probably the bane of friendship.

It's even funnier when you consider that Tumblr is considered a SJW website and that's why I've seen anyone, at all, oppose it.

Tumblr has a good "community" because all your interactions on there are curated based on who you follow. If you don't agree with somebody you don't have to see what they post.
