Friends tell me the platypus is strange...
I find cats stranger... rabbit feet, snake mouth, rat tail. Then add talons.
Yikes!

Rats have naked tails, cats do not. Snake mouths are basically nothing like cat's mouths. Only birds have talons, by definition; on other animals they're called claws.
Are you sure you're talking about cats.
Yeah, but cats don't have poison barbs.... only on their hind legs....and only on the males of the species while also being mammals that lay eggs.
Platypi are totally critters that just went through the left over clearance section and grabbed whatever they thought looked neat as an impulse buy.
Only strange thing about the platypus is how venomous it is as a mammal that's really rare.
Cats are fine example of a predator - with incredible agility.
OMG... how'd I forget the eggs, yea that's pretty weird too - platypus lays eggs.
Platypi is based on bad latin and it should actually be platypodes, but platypi is an accepted, if rarer form.
But, yeah, it is a really bizarre animal. So bizarre that when the first samples were sent back to Europe they were convinced it had to be a hoax.
next he'll be talking about how it was crawling on the walls and spitting acid as a team of marines were picked off one by one
What you described is not at all a cat.
Do you actually know what cats are?
What a disappointing thread... was expecting a video on the aforementioned pair duking it out.
Where the hell do you get your cats, by the nuclear power plant?
Platypus are milk secreting monotremes, they are much smaller than you would think. They also have poison spurs. They are possibly the strangest and most awesome wee critter we get here.
The other thing you have described, is some sort of Chupacabra.
Depending on its size, I'd probably put money on the cat.

Depends if it is taking on the male or not. If the platypus hit with those spurs then the cat is in all sorts of trouble. It can paralyse small animals.
You do not want to be poisoned by it. Ever. It won't kill you but you probably wish you were dead.
Platypus venom causes hyperalgesia, excruciating pain that lasts days, weeks or even months and does not respond to morphine. A former soldier that got stung by one said it was worse than being hit by shrapnel.
