Ofcourse it had to be a VR title, they have to push their sales number since outside of a niche market, not a single fuck is given about it.
Mainly due to the excessive amount of shovel-ware titles.

And like MrPaladinGuy said, what talent they had working on the previous 2 entries, is long gone.

Should have guessed, the moment fatty mcfuckface went "episodes for HL" we would get shafted.

Maybe because there are barely any good VR games ? 500-1000$ is a big step for a lot of people without any AAA games to look forward.

I like VR, I'm convinced it could work. It just needs way more games to attract more people, and the bigger the market the lower the entry price will become.

At least my Oculus rift gonna wait for this Half Life

Yeah, they'd need to integrate barf-bags into the VR headsets..

Also VR, eh. Not really interested unless they do some really revolutionary things with it. I wonder why they have such a hard time to just make a good shooter game in that franchise. They'd essentially just need to write a decent plot, pull some nice visuals and gameplay gimmiks out of the hat and stay true to their franchise like the doom guys did. They'd have an instant success on their hands, It's not like HL was ever the second comming of christ, just finishing their story would have been enough for most after HL2.

You are welcome, Metzen. I hope you won't fuck up my underground expansion idea.

I'm pretty excited for this, though I'd take anything Half-Life related at this point.

VR is missing its "Must Have" title. there is no doom or halo to push it and make people want it.. back in the days of 3dfx it was quake 1 that pushed tech... until it gets its must-have title that everyone wants to play it won't go mainstream. the tech is coming one way or the other and while you may scoff at VR now.. give it another 10 years and you will more than likely be as invested in it as you are todays monitor/keyboard setups.

It will be an epic store exclusive

Btw main problem with vr isn't motion sickness, you get used to that after a while unless you use it on a crap rig with low fps, problem is that feels like playing with a snorkeling mask and during how weather you sweat a lot and in-game ui is often hard to read, also lacks good contrast

I'm fairly sure using VR doesn't do good to your eyes either.

I get motion sickness pretty badly from the usual stuff (rides etc) I even get it when in the car, but I don't get it from VR.

The main problem with VR for me is the picture quality (although I haven't tested any of the new generation yet so I don't know how much of an improvement they are) I'd use mine much more otherwise.

But its stuck in its own catch 22. Not to mention a full fledge vr game is probably harder to make where these companies only wanna make shovelware for it

The cynic side of me is thinking that this is just an half-assed attempt to gauge player interest in the franchise, and when it turns out that only a small amount of people buy and play it, they'll say, "see? Half-Life is not worth continued development!" Despite the fact VR has a very low adoption rate among players, since the headset and needed accessories are expensive alongside a computer powerful enough to run it properly.

I've met VR devs, they live in a dream world. They actually don't realize that there isn't enough people willing to buy VR gear to make any game recuperate its loss, they're obsessed with how great they think VR is, tech revolution etc, and somehow sometimes a rich idiot funds their big talk and it falls flat, every time.

    Thx for nothing valve.

Zero interest in VR and the future of it. Therefore I hope it crashes and burns.

That's a shame. The technology is amazing and it's, at least in my opinion and experience, the most immersive gaming experience so far, by a huge margin.

Remember as a kid , parents would go.. don't sit so close to the tele.

20 years later, we strap them directly onto our faces.

My guess is that HL:A will be designed around VR, but will still be playable without VR.

Wohooo. I already love it. Don't know how it will be, but I'm glad we get a good VR game!

If Half Life 3 is a VR-only title, that's my exit from the series. I sure as fuck hope it's not, and I'm not sure how this could even be a test of the waters.

It's not as if there isn't a well known, long-established, strong desire for a third entry. They just need to bloody make it.
