Nearly all items from his loot table are items that he took from those he defeated. Kinda like us, in hindsight.

"You stand at a dangerous crossroads. You can either stay here and be slaughtered by human hands... Or choose a darker path... To freedom."
Not sure if this *really* counts as a lore post, but it is interesting because most bosses drop items directly related to themselves it seems like. You're right that he does have a lot of stuff that didn't originally belong to him. What other bosses are like that?
I suppose it does make some sense for the character. They put in a lot of little "history of Arthas" details like with the chest you get with Frostmourne. So that is probably why in the LKs case, they really liked telling his story and how he got where he was.
In Karazan there's someone that drops Gorehowl for some reason.

And like most loot whores he has lost his soul to the first weapon he ninja'ed.
Just imagine him killing uther/antonidas and immediately looting their bodies.
He almost lost race to icecrown because he was overencumbered and couldnt run.
The Kryss of a Thousand Lies might be the exception, just being a play on the Sword of 1000 Truths from south park. But I like to headcannon it belonged to Mal'ganis, being a dreadlord and all it would fit.
"All that awaits you is death..only then will you understand. You've been following in my footsteps all along" - Arthas
Well immagine someone took Helm of Domination before Tirion EPGPed it to Bolvar and disenchanted it...
we would have Shadowlands expansion right after WotLK!
"You should be ashamed to do such things, now if you excuse me, I'll loot the corpse of this person that I randomly killed because reasons-Oh new boots!"
Sometimes I wonder if the writing team doesn't smoke some heavy weed and think they're written a story similar to Harry Potter but in High Fantasy
