    GOP plans to oust Pelosi

    https://nypost.com/2020/09/15/gop-un...-the-house/amp

House Republicans on Tuesday unveiled a set of legislative promises in an effort to rally support for ousting Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

The “Commitment to America” contains 17 agenda items and resembles the eight-point Contract with America that in 1994 helped Republicans retake the House for the first time in 40 years.

“Republicans helped build the greatest economy in a generation and the American way of life was thriving. We will do it again. That is our commitment to you,” House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) said in a press release.

McCarthy is likely to be House speaker if Republicans can reclaim a majority of seats. Democrats currently hold a 34-seat advantage.

Republicans commit in the document to “bringing high-speed internet to every household in the United States, launching a five-year plan to fix our roads, bridges, and airports, while cutting the permitting process time in half."

Republicans also commit to “opposing efforts to defund the police while increasing funding by $1.75 billion for better police training, community policing, and equipment, including 500,000 more body cameras.”

The document comes amid gridlock on Capitol Hill on new coronavirus stimulus legislation and on police reforms following the May killing of George Floyd by Minnesota police.

In one item, Republicans commit to “extending the $2,000 child tax credit and making permanent Opportunity Zone credits that generate $10 billion each year in poor communities.”

The document commits to tripling COVID-19 testing and funding efforts to modernize medical supplies for future pandemics.

Other agenda points are less detailed, such as a pledge to uphold First and Second Amendment rights, and to allow students to change schools.

On Tuesday, Pelosi (D-Calif.) said the House will remain in session until new stimulus legislation is passed, although that’s unlikely to happen, with Senate Democrats blocking a “skinny” GOP plan and Senate Republicans declining to spend $2 trillion as pitched by Democrats.
The plan actually doesn't sound too bad but with GOP they will probably find a way to grift off the money spent on the plan

What a colossal waste of time and resources given that she's already agreed to a 4-year limit anyway. Oh, also, they won't actually commit to any of what they said they'll commit to.

According to BroadbandNow, #1 through #9 states for high speed internet coverage are blue states. Florida is #10 and Utah #11. Texas way down at #30. Nine of the bottom ten states are red states. The bottom line is that communication companies are loathe to bring high speed internet to rural areas where they don't have a lot of subscribers.

As for roads, bridges, and airports, and permitting, again they tend to be state specific. The Federal Government involvement tends to be minimal. Unless they want to get more involved which contradicts their stated goal of smaller government.

Interesting plan. Where was it 3 years 10 months ago?

If the Republicans really wanted all this, they should have done it while they held the House. Now it's just more promises they're on record of never keeping. "But Infrastructure Week VII: You'll Goebbels It Up will be the one that actually works, guys! Why don't you trust us?"

I assume it reads a lot like Mein Kampf.

So...a combination of the usual GOP drivel with some moving in the direction that Democrats have been in for years?

The Republicans heart-on with Pelosi is always hilarious. She is such a corporate Dem that I guess the Republicans are that greedy they need it all cause she is liberal on some social issues, but she never really pushes shit.

I will give Republicans credit that their hate burns a true red heat. They did an excellent job of portraying Pelosi as the evil monster. My point here and my opinion is that I wish Dems would/could do the same. McConell is much worse that Pelosi and it is really not an opinion. He has killed more legislation and hurt the Democratic process than Pelosi has every done. Sure you want to label Pelosi a dirty liberrrrral, but Moscow Mitch, the Grim Reaper of the Senate.

House Minority leader, Kevin McCarthy is a cut out of McConnell. Not a ruthless, but as dangerous to our democracy. Again, nothing compared to Pelosi.

Typical GOP doublespeak. They campaign on doing good shit for people then get in and do nothing while blaming Dems the whole time. Don't fall for it. If they regain the house that shit will never see the light of day.

It's with Obama's long form birth certificate and Trump's ACA replacement plan. In the top drawer of his desk, that he will never reveal.

Rally support from whom? It is internal that they decide this, based on who holds majority; why do they even have political key issues?

    I am confused...

It will be just another thing funded by the "rich costal elites" which just so happen to be those Blue states they cry about every minute.

As it is most money per resident is already spent in those poor poor socialist's dependent red states.

Also the republicans just spent 30 years making sure ISP had monopolies and prevented any attempt at local and state run ISP's.
    Buh Byeeeeeeeeeeee !!

I wonder which economy they're talking about here.

Dumbest fucking thing ever - except that it's the GOP, so who fucking cares. I mean - they are trying to "oust" Pelosi by proposing the very things she (and the Democrats) have already been begging for, from a dipshit-in-chief who doesn't even know where his dad was born.

Pure idiotic and ignorance desperation here - which is basically the new GOP's overall strategy.

Holy shit that is the best thing I've read all week.

And indeed, where was this when mass testing would have actually helped.

You know I am so confused I was told by republicans and verizon shill Ajit Pai that getting rid of net neutrality was going to do all that and lower prices all over the country.

As a libtard Pelosi is doing more harm than good for her party at this current moment. Total corporate Democrat.

That said. I don't trust a single thing anyone from the GOP does or says. Literally the gas light party. Every time they accuse the other side of doing something they themselves are doing something ten times worse.

Like seriously you can tell most of them are scum bags just by looking at them. At least the Dems stand for SOMETHING.

Republicans here days only seem to stand for padding their pockets and the pockets of their rich donors, and controlling an uneducated part of the population that's fueled by hate for people who have different experiences than them.
