ESports: You can't or don't want to?

I doubt any of you here are eSports heroes. Is it a conscious choice you made, because you hate stress and no guarantee, or are you just not good enough at games?

I personally gave up on eSports because it is stressful. I want to play games to relax, though the part of me wanting to reach my full potential says I should go for it.

In my opinion I am too good at Esports games, I don't believe there is a league that could challenge nor contain my skill level.

I can't. I'm pretty bad at the game as it is. Therefore I don't want to.

I'm with OP. Games are not meant to be a job. they're meant to help you relax.
We're all newbs, some are just more newbier than others.

Just a burned out hardcore raider turned casual.
I'm tired. So very tired. Can I just lay my head on your lap and fall asleep?

Everyone posting here is just too pro at games. We don't want to embarrass the universe.

I mean...Esports should be treated the same as professional athletic sports.

If you happen to portray a natural talent for being extremely skilled at a game, hitting top ladders while you're having fun, then it might be worth considering going pro. Easiest to do this when younger and limited responsibilities. No one should be trying to convince themselves they can "work their way up" to being that good without an honest backup plan and the full expectation that it's probably not going to happen for you. You don't want to be the kid that trains himself to death for an NFL ticket he was never gunna get.

Its always "I don't want to."
Esports, as unfortunate as it is, are not actual sports - meaning they feature no physical requirement or physical competition.

You do not need to be 7 foot tall to be a profession esports gamer, nor do you need to practice your swing thousands of time to perfect gaming.

There are many people who "can't" dedicate the time to doing it, but that too is a choice.
Its a field with extremely low barrier to entry, but extremely high skill ceiling, and many people believe they are physically incapable of progressing to that point.

    They aren't.
But the fact that their mind has convinced them they are, does indicate that they shouldn't bother trying, considering its all mental anyway.

I wouldn't want to live that lifestyle.

I want to play games when I feel like playing games, and play the game I want to play.

I don't want to be forced to play certain games for dozens of hours a week so I can be good at whatever game is making money. I also wouldn't want to be bound to contract drama or the life of being a celebrity. Being a celebrity in the West sucks. You are constantly scrutinized and if you say something that might offend someone, your career is over. If someone goes into your post history and picks out something you said years ago, your career is over. I wouldn't want to live with a camera on me everytime I played the game, or whatever.

I like to read in the Overwatch forums here on mmochampion the megathread "So how is your games going lately" because, according to everyone posting in that thread, they're all pros, they're never the cause or reason why they lose a match, and everyone sucks.

On topic - I don't take even e-sports seriously at all. The dramatic music or stories they try to shove down your throat just turn me off from it even more.
Just don't reply to me. Please. If you can help it.

Theres no esports for competitive Megaman X

I thought esports were cool back in the Quake days when it was essentially just spontaneous and organically engineered by the players themselves, and back then I probably would have enjoyed getting to that level.

However, these days esports are way too commercialised, and reek of corporate rot. On top of that the drama they try to force around it as much as they can is even more off putting,it's not even *good* drama anyway.

tldr : Esports were cool when they were actually about games, and not about money and drama

I’m not involved with them because using the word “sport” is what puts me off. As some one that plays a lot of sport, it feels like a cheap method of saying “Na mum, I ain’t going out today, I am Already playing a sport!”

EDIT: don’t forget the cringe from the photos. Them standing with their arms folded looking serious and attempting intimidation. You can’t intimidate a wet paper bag!

I have no interest in following/watching eSports, much less playing myself.

playing video games for money was cool before it was about playing for money.

    nani?
Tonight for me is a special day. I want to go outside of the house of the girl I like with a gasoline barrel and write her name on the road and set it on fire and tell her to get out too see it (is this illegal)?

I love and miss esports very much. But with kids and other obligations... there is simply not enough hours in the day.

I'm a profesional eSport Animal Crossing player. Just FYI.

But nah, It looks like a shitty lifestyle. I play games to have fun and relax, not to push myself to the limit to win. Win/lose? who cares.

instead you practice by playing for thousands of hours which people like to forget.

For one reason, it's the same reason I didn't choose to go pro with volleyball. There's really no future in it. Despite games like Overwatch trying their hardest to be the next NBA.

By all means, it doesn't matter what you think but sport doesn't require physical engagement, you can think of esports like a chess, which is defined as a sport.
And this is not matter of opinion, this is fact
