Just get the ESO base version for whatever it is like $20. There's a ton of content with that to see if you like it. If you like it then first thing I'd do is drop $15 on the ESO plus, then worry about the other things and new expansion.

They have an anniversary event coming up and there's a Jester event currently taking place with XP bonuses so it's a good time to jump in.

Lots of good new player guides on this site ^

This is very true to how I feel about it too. I can't speak on FF14, but ESO I find is better than WoW in every regard minus raiding and personally I find the ESO auction house "trader" system to be really bad. Otherwise I like it more than WoW currently.

This is why the MMO scene is a shit show: People think having to level isn't an "MMO" anymore.

And, well i wont compare new mmo to good old world of warcraft. I havent compared SWTOR <--> Wow either. I dislike the game direction of SL, like grinding for cosmetics, but that doesnt mean wow is bad or i started disliking it after more than a decade of playing.
Im glad i was wrong, but usually "help me pick game" threads are closed

WoW thaught them that leveling is an obstacle to get over as fast as possible. And they wonder why people whine about the lack of content. FFXIV absolutely treats it as part of the journey. Hell for SWTOR the original leveling with the class stories is the best part. My Smuggler can't be bothered with Eternal Thrones and Sith armies. Just gimme a casino to rob.

FF14 also does a great job with encouraging "alt" leveling (even though it isnt really alts).

Yeah that's true. Altough nowadays I only do Ninja, I have all the jobs unlocked and most of them as far as 50. Honestly sometimes I really feel overwhelmed. Like I haven't even capped all the ARR Beast Tribes.

I've tried to get into FF14 a few times over the years, but something always stops me. I can't seem to wrap my head around the jobs system and character growth. It just seems incredibly overwhelming. And something about the very early part of the game just doesn't hook me. It feels like I'm thrown into a world and nothing is really explained.

It's weird, because I've enjoyed most other MMOs on the market to one degree or another, but I wish I could get into this one because so many people seem to genuinely enjoy it.

Well nightmare operations in SWTOR were quite fine for me.

Lotro is free to play, with an option to go VIP, which means paying for a sub like in wow. If you play free to play, you need to unlock/buy the next maps etc, but if you pay sub, you get everything in game, and you can enjoy the game to the fullest without touching the cash shop at all.

Sorry i didnt knew that "help me pick..." threads are unwanted. :/ But i'm glad aswell, maybe a little too glad, because the comments here make me wanna tryout both games, valhiem and lotro sound also intersting.
my "easy" solution, i searched for some "beuinners guides" a la "ff14 for dummies" and "eso for dummies" and well it seems i will watch em both and decide then. But right now, i tend a little more to ff14, 200 hours of story before doing mmo stuff sounds promising. And its about 40 bucks, so even i might figure out i dislike the mmo stuff, 200 hours of fun when the story is good would be ok for me.

But i will need to see the graphics, the combat system and so on for a final decision.

but again, thx for helping me here

Don't need to listen to him. The threads that are usually closed are the "Help me pick a class" threads in the WoW sections. While asking for a game to play isn't against the rules, people will usually point you to the Request a game/Suggest a game megathread at the top of Video Games Discussion.

    I play ESO, it's great.

You said it yourself, there is a stickied thread for requesting a game and this thread should be closed like all the other ones that ask the same question.

FFXIV would be good for you.

I think FFXIV is for you, it just takes time for a new player to hit endgame. Endgame content is gated behind campaign wall. While DLC campaigns are great, base game is poorly done. Community is great, just don't try to criticize the game otherwise you'll see a sh*tstorm you've never seen before.

ESO has great concept, but game itsels is bugged af and EU server performance is sometimes horrible during primetime. Hardmodes in trials are quite easy in comparison to other mmos and real hardcore players have to focus on trifecta achievements (HM+timed run+nodeath) which was a big NO for me. Some ppl say its p2w but it comes from ppl who thinks buying DLC is a p2w. And actually DLC brings very little for money you have to pay in comparison to other mmos (lets say wow)

EDIT: btw. combat system in ESO is the best I've seen so far
