How do you feel about politics strongly affecting media/entertainment?

From both the right and the left it's really getting annoying to the point where it makes you angry to see someone else's political views and social standards be shoved down your throat. Television, movies, video games, even now as far as going into terms of use and service. I go to media to have fun and be entertained.. not shown propaganda or get thrown down a political conundrum or right/left spectrum rabbit hole.

Nope, it's just rightwing babies that are annoyed that. Cheap attempt at bothsiderism.

Sorry Socially conservatives get mad when:
    • Superman gets bi-curious
    • Dark skinned people get speaking parts in a in fantasy universe
    • Red Sonja doesnt have huge bazongas
    • Their fave sportsball coach sends racist email, and gets called on it.

Its not about doing the bad thing, its getting mad when getting caught, out loud doing it.

These facts dont care about your feelings.

Depends on the content and execution. Generally rightwing bullshit can get fucked. In terms of execution the Supergirl show kinda fails at it while X-Men handles it better.

Also as far as I know, the Right Wing folks are only mad at shit being 'Political' because they've made certain states of existence in of themselves political stances.

IE: Women, LGBTQ+, and/or Racial/Ethnic/Religious Minority characters features as leads or supporting leads in anything, or Women who they don't feel fall into their hilariously narrow scope of what they consider 'conventionally attractive'.

Labeling things that break the traditional mold of 'Heteronormative Cisgendered White Guy' throws them into a frothed mouth frenzy about 'Wokeness' or 'political correctness' when at most many of those 'Political Statements' either boil down to; People are just People, or 'Don't be a Cunt'.

As for Conservative Media? I'm hard pressed to think of anything traditionally 'Conservative' in fiction that reached any mass appeal. Even things like Ender's Game or Harry Potter written by deeply conservative persons usually don't have their stories littered with right-wing leaning messaging. Divorcing the shitty people who wrote them, HP can be seen as a commentary about how stupid Ethnofacism and Isolationist-minded Nationalism can be and Ender's Game has some real big Anti-War vibes.

But if you're goal is to enjoy a piece of media and not have a viewpoint throatfucking you - ahem, I mean, 'Being Shoved down your throat' - then good luck because anything substantive either deliberately has some sort of political or moral messaging to it, or can be interpreted as such depending on how you define 'Political'.

Existence ain't all about you, bubs.
Populists (and "national socialists") look at the supposedly secret deals that run the world "behind the scenes". Child's play. Except that childishness is sinister in adults.

The studios and artists can design their content however they like it. If you don't, stop consuming it. It is as simple as that. You don't have the right to be entertained according to whatever parameters suit your safespace.

Politics and media have interacted since the 'media' became a thing.

Yep. What the right identifies as "political" are things like "a character is LGBT", or "a character is a racial minority", or "a character is a woman in a non-traditional role". Just the existence of such a character is enough to get them reacting negatively.

That's inserting politics. Not the inclusion of a diverse cast of characters.

The closest you get to a "left-wing" political point is "oh noes, there's a villain who's a rich company owner who has used their position and power to do bad things". Which, y'know, is hardly political. Half of Bond villains fit that description, and I'm talking the Connery/Moore era, not the modern ones. Ebenezer Scrooge would too, but nobody calls A Christmas Carol "leftist propaganda".

Because that's just obvious villainy. It isn't "political" at all.

Also, in general, it isn't even bad to include politics in your fiction. A big part of the purpose of fiction is to explore moral choices and consequences.

Or maybe the artists behind the works have political ideals they themselves find important.
Most well known comedy acts have political leanings to them for example.

Doesn't seem to be an issue in the media I watch/play.

Shit, the literal plot to View to a Kill wasn't anything about world domination or the usual kinds of Bond villain stuff (outside of Goldfinger who just wanted all the gold in Fort Knox). It was to have an insane, uber-wealthy CEO who was the product of Nazi genetic experiments flood Silicon Valley to take over the global microchip market.

Man I love that fuckin movie so much, even if it's hot garbage.

Link the definition then explain how that fits what you claimed.

lol anyone is free to try it but it won't work as expected. Government politics and art have never produced anything good so far because it's a misunderstanding of what people are truly looking for in each domain.

Not so that politics are heavily featured but peoples interest in politics have gotten more passionate for sure. There are kids as young as 13 taken interest in politics now, man I didn't care about politics until I was in my 20's. No kid I knew when I was that age was even remotely interested in politics the way kids are today, There are kids 13 talking about the stock market and NFT's and I am here still clueless about both and I am 38 lol. its surreal. xD

It may be the way media is fed to us, with the popularity of social media, politics is everywhere and more out there. The only way to find out politics when I was a kid was to either read a paper of watch the news two things kids never participated in because unlike social media it wasnt really 'cool'.

Superman being bi annoyed me not because he is bi but because they made his partner a random pink haired weirdo and not batmans son :/
