so it took 2 months for people leaving game to the point when layering is not needed.

    not surprising

Layering is probably still needed here and there which is why they're leaving free transfers open in the short term. All in all this seems to be going exactly how sensible people imagined it would go. Blizzard is apparently determined that they will fulfill their promise to remove layering entirely so those players on those realms that are still overfull should think about using that free transfer and get their asses in gear.

What did retail won? The never happy casual players are now most likely back next ratail patch and surprise, surprise they will not be happy with the next patch either.

expected too see this standard troll posts, thanks for being a textbook example.

    For anyone wondering:

the difference between Classic in at launch versus late October is that a good chunk of the player population (~50%) have reached the level cap, and spend their prime hours in instances now -- BRD / LBRS/ UBRS / SCHOLO / STRAT / DM E / DM W / DM N, or raids MC / ONY.

Since those instances are hosted on other virtual servers, they have the same load balancing effect. There's less competition in world zones allowing for the layering collapse.

This is why layering was always a short term solution.

Theoretically, the AQ event might necessitate layering thanks to everyone converging on Silithus, but that's not for at least 6+ months and blizzard will cross that bridge when they come to it.

Or you can /who and see a huge dropoff, especially if you don't have actual friends to gauge things by

Spoiler: the population has significantly dropped off because it's a curiosity/niche/POS.

It's funny, people who were saying "Classic won't last a week" are now pretending to have "won" because Classic took two months (which is much longer than anyone expected) to reach a situation where about half the realms are merely "very overpopulated" instead of "so massively overpopulated that they need to be subdivized into several layers which are each overpopulated themselves".
Some people really have a mental problem.

Actually, a realm without layer is basically a VERY OVERCROWDED realm.
A "medium" realm is already, dixit Blizzard "much bigger than a full realm at the Vanilla time". The non-layered realms are nearly all "high" or "full", which means they are massively above the population limit that was current at the time.

"here and there" being over than half the euro realms, BTW. It's mostly US realms which have been de-layered.
