Need some help with my HD monitor

I recently got an upgrade for my graphic card, so now, I want to enable 2 monitors on it. 1 Monitor is HD the other is not. So what I figured was this: I use a HDMI cable for the one, a normal vga for the other.

Only now, when I enable extend my monitors, the one with HD goes black and the other one works, and when i duplicate, they both work.

My gfx card is Ati Radeon HD 5770.

If you need any more specifications please do tell and i'll try to find what you need.

make sure the HDMI monitor is set as the primary monitor when extending, otherwise it won't work

Well, I finally got it to work, wasn't expecting that my HDMI cable wasn't right to do the trick, as it worked for my ps3 and such. Got another HDMI cable and everything is working another day lost just because i want dual monitor hehe
