Can't find a good gaming mouse.

I have been on a quest to find a new gaming mouse. I need side buttons. And it has not gone well. I have tried all kinds of mice and haven't found one that I can stand using. Currently, I'm using a Dell M-UVDEL1. Yeah, it's ancient.

    Specifications that I need:

    1. The ability to properly Claw Grip the mouse. That means the side where your right ring finger holds the mouse needs to slope down and in towards the bottom. This is a huge issue. Most all of the new mice I see are made for the Palm Grip.

    2. A decent amount of DPI. I suppose anything in the 1800+ range would do fine.

    3. 2 side buttons. These need to be programmable to function as an ALT and Ctrl modifier key.

    4. Needs to be a decent size. I have large hands.

So that we can narrow down the search, these are the products that I have tried and do not work for one reason or another:

    1. Razer Mamba - Indentions on the sides where you grip caused hand cramps.
    2. Razer Deathadder - No claw grip.
    3. Razer Naga Epic - Can't properly grip the side with buttons. Button programming a problem.
    4. Razer Imperator - Couldn't get a good grip.
    5. Razer Abyssus - No side buttons. Uncomfortable.
    6. Logitech M705 - No claw grip.
    7. Logitech G500 - No claw grip.
    8. Logitech MX518 - No claw grip.
    9. SteelSeries XAI - Side rubber too greasy to grip such a small mouse.
    10. SteelSeries WoW - No claw grip. Side buttons very uncomfortable.
    11. Microsoft IE 3.0 - Low DPI.

Thanks to anyone who can help me out!

ETA: Reasons why the mice on the list did not work.

Any particular reason(s) why those didn't work out? The reason I ask is because usually if you're using a claw grip a smaller mouse tends to work better than a palm grip

How about a Logitech G9 or Razer Lachesis?

I'm quite fond of the design on both the Saitek Cyborg R.A.T.7 and the Corsair Vengance M60.
I however, have never bothered differentiate the different grip-styles for myself, so I mix and match. These (haven't tried the Vengeance, and only rat7 quickly in a store) and the Logitech MX518 you debunked were comfortable to me in that regard.

I agree about the size of the mouse in conjunction with the claw grip. But they make really, really small mice these days too. I think most of those are the wireless travel mice though.

I have not bought a G9 to test out. But, I don't think I can get a proper grip on it with the way the left side moves out at the bottom.

The problem with the Lachesis is the same problem with the Mamba. It has the indentions on the sides. Those caused hand cramps when I tried out the Mamba.

The Cyborg R.A.T. series (at least the 7 and 9) are definitely claw grip mice. I love them but have always been skeptical because there have been numerous reports of they dying fairly fast. I played with them at PAX this year and almost bought one while I was there because I liked it so much, and I'm not a claw-grip person by nature

There's the mouse I use with claw grip, and have had for 2+ years. I use middle-mouse as my push-to-talk, so Razer mice are out anyway, as their mouse wheel support is plastic, and this one is metal, which led me to it.

Cyborg RAT 7 is the only way to go IMO.

Roccat Kone+ that someone else suggested.

I friggin' love this mouse. Easy Shift and on-the-fly dpi changing... yay!

The left side of the Roccat Kone reminds me of the G9.

As stated, I have large hands. The problem is the space underneath the side buttons to place the thumb. There is a lack of space there for me to grip with these mice. This is mostly because they are trying to have this ergonomic feel on the left side of their mice, but that only works for people with smaller fingers... For me, I'll just be accidentally hitting the side buttons constantly.

As someone who also has large hands and uses the Kone+, in claw grip, the tip of my thumb rests just forward of and underneath the left side buttons, placed such that I can perfectly hit either of them with my thumb joint. I usually hit the back one with the inside of the joint, and the front one with the tip of my thumb. It's a pretty large mouse, so for someone with small hands, it'd be more of a palm grip, but for us with large hands, it's perfect for claw gripping.

Steelseries Ikari is pretty awesome. I have a wireless Naga as well, although I don't use it much because the side numpad is a bit awkward to use and Razer (still) doesn't make replacement feet for the Naga Epic despite it being one of their most expensive products. I'm actually pretty peeved at the lack of support. =|

This may very well be true.

I really need to start designing my own stuff. Keyboards, gamepads, mice, etc...

There's no such thing. I personally can't stand behind the US$5-10 attitude to peripherals. Sound/monitor/keyboard/mouse are the things you actually use to interact with your computer, and should be the most personalised.
OTOH, I would prefer to spend a much larger bulk of a total budget toward them than many others, whom would focus mainly/only on the rig itself.

Building a fantastic computer and only getting so-so feedback from it via bad sound/visual is not something I'd enjoy. I'd rather have a fantastic screen/soundcard/speaker-or-headphone system while allowing the computer itself to take a performance-hit.

Good quality peripherals should last you through builds anyway. You might as well be comfortable with them. They'll pay for themselves through builds, and you'd also have good quality in the meanwhile.

The only thing speaking against this, is me still using my MX518. It's, to me, irreplacable, despite not being the most expensive device out there. :P
