Umm...this still happens in FFXIV and SWTOR and every other game that does this. It's not a great design choice tbh, so the frustration is understandable. I'm not sure I can particularly take a stance on it. I myself skip the cutscenes b/c it's polite to the other 3+ people that don't need to watch it as I can watch it in other ways.

The ones that happen after the dungeon is over make perfect sense, b/c that's your time to do what you want with it. So while the way they would complain may be immature, there's validity in the judgment of the method of delivery.

So i just decided to dive into ff14 this weekend and I gotta say. i am very impressed and enjoying it quite a lot.

  3. #19543
I don't think anyone should mind or complain about anyone else watching cut scenes when content is still fairly new (fairly new being before the next content update). And if they do, that's just them having impatience issues. Sometimes I actually like when people watch the cut scene at the beginning of a dungeon. If I had to hurriedly change classes after being in combat I have to wait out that cooldown reset, so someone taking a bit longer is actually beneficial to me and to the run overall.

Welcome to the club! The game does a have a few weak points, but IMO those are mostly really minor things; just small quality of life things that could be improved. Overall though, it is a great game.

No reason to be rude, no. But plenty of reason to be disgruntled at the design. Has a nasty habit of translating to player rudeness. Would be better if dungeons were presented as a solo experience for the story and then group play after that....if we want to discuss ideal design that doesn't infringe on players.

Oh I know. But unfortunately people will be people. That's sorta why I went on about this because 'those people' used this point to once again lash out at WoW and their players when this happens in each game that does this. Yes it would happen in WoW too b/c it happens in every game that has it.

God when SWTOR launched the amount of people that would rage and yell at you to smash your space bar faster was insane.

I was laughing because I'm pretty sure I'd be one of the people who'd have raged. It's actually still a habit of mine to skip cutscenes because I feel bad making people wait. I think all in all, I've only watched maybe 6 cutscenes in dungeons.

The ONE time I did watch a newer one, it was in between phase 1 & 2 of a fight (the story was interesting!), but my teammates didn't bother waiting. We wiped of course. Lesson learned. Off to youtube for the rest.

Yeah...I haven't even started leveling the lancer to become a monk. At this point I don't even care, it's level 30 for Moonfire or bust. The MSQ are all you need to level, yet I'm going slower than I ever have before. I don't even understand what is happening haha.

    Man you are easily pleased.

The story is utter formulaic trash.

It's almost as if it's completely subjective...

Though I firmly disagree - the story is pretty engaging despite it being an MMO and it's improved significantly over time. The latter half of the 2.0 patches kept me on the edge of my seat and Heavensward repeatedly left me wanting to know and see more. It's a very well designed setting.

I think most people would firmly disagree tbqh. The only people that I know of who had an incredible dislike of the story all quit either around 20 or pre-20.

tbqh, the story after say 2.3 is absolutely rewarding to everyone who made it to 50. That whole section alone was worth every penny I've given them.

But yes, it is subjective. At the same time most JRPG storys follow the same general story telling pattern, it can easily be predictable at times because of that and there are a lot of cliche's. It is a JRPG MMO at the end of the day, it holds true to all the stereotypes of JRPG's, including the ones that made JRPG's popular.

Ya honestly, little UI and customization details are the stuff that annoys me. (some im sure i just haven't found out how to change it yet)

like why can't i just turn off the UI noises. i dont need the sprite sound ever time i open the map or inventory or character page.

I also rock a 12 button mouse and would like the ability to rearrange the button layout to a 3x4 instead of a 1x12 bar.

i am excited to keep playing, i got an archer to lvl 12, and i started an arcanist just to try it out and see a different part of the map got him to 9. so i am thinking i will try a melee tonight, just to get a feel for the different play styles. Then i will pick one to main and probably delete the rest.

What you see is what you get. The UI can only be moved and resized. (PS resizing is a really awkward key combo I can't even remember atm b/c I've been playing on a gamepad which makes it easy).

I mean you can tweak some options in the settings menu to make the whole thing more suited to you, but in terms of mimicking addon functions? No. It's pretty rare that games have this without addons and almost as rare to have robust addon support.

Because the game is shared with PS3/PS4, it will be unlikely that it will be as customizable as WOW. It's still annoying to me not to be able to separate buffs and debuffs, but w/e.

Ctrl+Home is the one that will resize your bars if you're on the PC.

UI noises are called "system sounds" in the sound tab.

Don't know about 3x4 layout, but you can enable vertical bars from the character configuration if that helps.

thanks guys, that's really helpful. Resizing the interface will help at least some. I'll dig a bit more and see if I can find something for key layout. I could easily see them adding the functionality later.

turning off the system sounds will be nice though. i think i was starting to drive my wife crazy with them.

another thing i wish it had was the ability to turn down battle music. I like the regular background music but i wish i could turn down the battle music more, its so final fantasy intense, its great on big boss battles but you, this level 1 squirrel is a little less epic.

like you said, its small quality of life stuff.

Now here's a question, what is archer like later on, because right now I am not enjoying it for the same click a lot to knock the hp down one tiny notch at a time like in ESO or guild wars and not sure i want to stick it out for a while.

Well you COULD get the AESTHETIC layout you are looking for, but it would take most of your horizontal bars. Stack three hotbars on top of eachother. Correctly keybind (mousebind) the first four buttons on each hotbar. Use the option to make unused hotbar spots invisible, and then only use the first four slots on each hotbar.

Impractical, and you would have to keep moving new skills off of hotbar1, but just trying to offer another way around the 3x4 bar you are never likely to get.

And even in stories where they go opposite of your expectation, they wind up being predictable from the other side. We need to face that we've lived a really long time and it's ok that we retell the same stories that Greeks told in a marketplace and then documented on a tablet or something which were the same stories that early man lived and told to their children.

Humanity has had the same conflicts since the dawn of man. It's part of what makes us human. The only stories that have managed any originality still have strong roots in common stories, but expand on those ideas by going deeper into technology/science or inner workings of the mind. Things that didn't exist or had no language to imagine with.

For what it's worth, I find a lot of concepts displayed in Eastern narrative both in video games/anime and other literature have a way of telling stories with great meaning even while treading in cliche. I haven't seen all that FFXIV has to offer, but often our judgment of stories comes from our own cultural awareness and lack of knowledge about other cultures.

Sorry to get all edumacated up in here...

From what I've heard/read people don't have enough *hp* to defeat the fight right now...so yeah, probably(?)
