If the new starship troopers follows the book's story, it will be nothing like the movies, which is a shame because the movies are fucking hilarious.

Considering how Hollywood has managed to put out some good remakes (i.e. the newest Hulk was way better than its former, Batman not a remake but franchise reboot is amazing, Rise of the Planet of the Apes was awesome, I even liked X-Men:Origins a lot) it might be ok. I don't see the need the remake it but its probably a complete franchise reboot (didn't read the article) since the sequels sucked.
Hmm, well I liked the Ang Lee Hulk film, Rise of the Planet of the Apes was awesome if you're comparing it to the Marky Mark abortion but the originals are still classic in my mind.
I think it's an interesting idea. The original was made to be a silly popcorn movie. If they try to make it serious it will just be another CGI nonsense film.
Could you imagine what Soylent Green or Bladerunner would have looked like if given the Starship Troopers treatment...
The book was a classic. The movie... wasn't. (granted, its a fun movie, but it aint anything remotely like what Heinlein presented).
On the plus side, at least they aren't presenting us with an X-rated 'Stranger in a Strange Land'. (ya know, now that I say that, i bet someone's already made a porn spoof of that title).
SST the movie has as much in common with John Steakley's Armor as with Heinlein's book, and steakley, unlike heinlein, could write action and battle scenes. I believe the producers of the movie said so, but doing full-body armor was not economically viable for the movie. Armor was set in Heinlein's SST universe (early in it it is mentioned that the time is a bit after 'P,' and in any event Steakley openly stated as such.)
if you like that, you might try Joe Haldeman's The Forever War, which also as I understand it was meant to be set in the SST setting.
I don't see why instead of making it into a movie they make it into a show that is on HBO,Showtime or something like that were they can get away with the gore and have a really good storyline.
At its core, the story just doesn't have the depth of character or plot to support a production like that.
Perhaps they could explore the military drama aspect while highlighting the "citizen question", but I doubt they'd be able to hit a wide enough audience to get a green light.
You think that's Bad I hear Blade Runner is getting a Prequel/Remade
Starship Troopers is classic scifi? Oh my.
That's kind of like calling 90's alternative, classic rock.

They'll destroy the movie just as they did the second and third. The first is a classic and a decent movie in comparison to the other 2, it's a cult classic...why remake something that was pretty decent. I hate when people remake films, just shows they need to keep milking it for money.
It seems they knew the first was bad as they were filming it, so it ended up being bad in a good way. It became somewhat of a sci-fi hit, so they thought they were actually good and took the two sequels seriously. Then that was bad in a bad way.
I'm so sick of movies being remade. So damn sick. There are so many good books out there that could be LoTR quality, but they don't put the effort in to make magic. Instead they churn old stuff for the nostalgia and the kids for instant money.
I want power armor. Id like something based off the book if done right
Loved the original for the intentional campiness and spoofing of the 50-60's era military propoganda. No doubt Hollywood will take it to a way-too-serious level in the remake...sad.
I quit the game, and this happens:
"You can now mount while under the skeleton effect of the Noggenfogger Elixir!"
Are you effing kidding me?!?!
