2 Million People Played the Beta

This is interesting. EA claims that 2 Million users played the beta

    http://pc.ign.com/articles/121/1214004p1.html

EA has revealed that over two million players have participated in Star Wars: The Old Republic beta testing. According to EA, this makes the game "one of the biggest beta tests in history."

The figure comes via the Global Media and Communications Conference, where EA revealed that each beta tester played an average of twelve hours over Thanksgiving weekend. Over nine million hours were played cumulatively during the same period.

EA announced last month that over one million hours were logged during a previous beta testing period. Star Wars: The Old Republic will be released on December 20th, but players can get early access with a pre-order.

And props to them for a well handled beta event.

The article I read said 2 million signed up and they had 750k unique logins. Lemme find the link...http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/a...blic-beta.aspx. Not that it matters for the gameplay, but I am wondering why the discrepancy. 750k and 2M is way different.

Edit: NVM it says 750k just that weekend. I read good.

Yes agreed. The only issues I experienced were very minor, to the point they would be acceptable in an early gold release of a game.

it doesn't surprise me that the number is so high, considering everyone I know who applied to test got in. I think it even gets to the stage where they only invited people in order to increase the number of people who would play come launch, not that I look down on that in any way; quite the reverse. Good business sense.

Who is Chris Metzen? He is supposed to be Turkish. Some say his father was German. Nobody believed he was real. Nobody ever saw him or knew anybody that ever worked directly for him, but to hear Zarhym tell it, anybody could have worked for Metzen. You never knew. That was his power. The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist. And like that... poof! He's gone.

One of the best beta events I've ever been in. I enjoyed playing from 1-40 over 3 weekends, and not once ran into a major issue(aside from everything disappearing from my screen when my camera was angled too high). Even at lv40 I still found stuff to explore on the Imperial Space Station, it was quite fun.

So we can probably deduce 2 million for first free month.

2-3 Million is where I thought this game would end up.

Preorders as of the 26th of November are at 900k. That pretty much pre-dates the open beta (since I'm willing to bet the data got to them before the start of the beta, like on the 24th or early 25th or something) and all the people on the fence before the beta got their hands on the game. I'm wondering what those numbers will look like when they get their next report? And for that matter, I wonder if that is actually inclusive of all pre-orders....or just digital, just physical, etc.

if over 2 million played the beta I am sure there will probably be that many if not more at start. All positive signs really. Many people did not have time to play the beta at that weekend.

The stress test seemed to be fairly well run. Client and server (at least in my case) were stable. Only ran into 1 game stopping bug which had a work around. Hopefully this means they can focus on bug fixes and new features when the game goes live than having to scramble around dealing with server performance/stability issues.

They needed to test this for Launch anyways, hope we get a smooth Early Access

I thoroughly enjoyed the beta. Great game and I look forward to playing it live with my wow guild which mostly all transferred to SWTOR. Only complaint I have with were the race choices. No wookies or jawa's yet we get others I've never even heard of but I guess that leaves room to grow.

From my experiences the reason for the massive number of people invited to Beta was 2 fold, 1 to incite some reviews for the game to get it to sell really well (not like it wouldn't on its own just from the name) but also giving their servers a proper stress test and giving them an idea of how many servers they may need upon launch. I liked what I experienced, I felt during their massive invite to beta that their servers handled the capacity of people very well so I'm holding high hopes that continues through to launch.

that is physical copies in NA, EU and all digital are not on included, we are probably looking at something between 1.5 and 2 million total preorders

I really will not be surprised if there are over 3 million players at launch.
Why am I back here, I don't even play these games anymore

The problem with the internet is parallel to its greatest achievement: it has given the little man an outlet where he can be heard. Most of the time however, the little man is a little man because he is not worth hearing.

As anyone who participated in the beta long enough to reach 50 more then once you know they are going to need some type of miracle to have a functioning end game by release,
while the server remained stable, to call the majority of flashpoints past Bringing Down the Hammer "functioning" would be an incorrect statement

Were they not functioning in terms of instance stability or mechanics bugs?

I think you are being a little over dramatic. There were certainly issues with a couple flashpoints in the latest build, Cademimu and Calecoid come to mind. However most played fine. The Hard mode flashpoints definitely need some tweaking. However it is safe to say that they have been working on fixing these issue in a dev build and if it is not patched in by the time the game launched, it would surely be add by the time a majority of folks make it to max level.

There will certainly be minor bugs and fixes to address as there always are with MMO releases, how BW handles them and the timeframe they fix them in will make all the difference.

This was totally a marketing move coupled with a stress test. The force is strong with these guys hahaha.

A couple were just flat out bugged and crashed you when you zoned in, some had boss mechanic issues.

There are definitely bugs, but I think that the game pre 50, will be extremely playable and polished.
