    Couple of questions about ToR

    I was looking at some photos and videos on ToR and am trying to figure some stuff out. Do the light sabers sheath to your back and just stop glowing? Does it look like a sword or something on your back? Please tell me this is not the case. Tell me the glowing saber just disappears when you are not in battle.

    I currently play WoW. I use Bartender4 to customize my UI for a very specific button/macro system. Does ToR have the ability to move around and reshape action bars?

    Thanks for your time.

    The stick you have seen is the trainee saber. The trainee saber is like a stick which lights up. When you become a Jedi (or whatever class you play) at level9-10 then you get your real saber which isn't a stick

    TOR doesn't have the ability to change its UI too much, however, this is something that may come shortly after launch.

    They sheath to your side and stop glowing after spending enough time out-of-combat, or you can press Z to sheath/unsheath it manually.

    When you say too much, how much is too much?

    For example: Rift. You could at least move the action bars around on your screen. Is that too much?

    Basically SWTOR right now only has the default UI options. And it works like WoW's default UI with absolutely no addons

    Bioware says they are going add the ability to have UI addons later after release.

    You can actually do a lot with the UI. I just saw a vid on how to make unit frames for healing and to get your companion's actions to show up on the left action bar!

    WoW at launch had 0 addons, and that is how TOR is. Later on I am sure they will add the ability to make certain addons- nothing game breaking.

    WoW had no add-ons at launch? WTF is Cosmos then and how did I use it in BETA?

    Blizz then started incorporating elements of Cosmos into the UI before/shortly after launch, and has been following the format of adopting popular add-ons in to the UI ever since.

    Plenty of these things have become industry standard now.

    It's not game breaking that BW doesn't have some things in game, but it is pretty lame. Being able to move and scale what is available should be bare minimum for launch.

    More concerning than UI concerns, as the default UI is passable and can be used is the fact that their is no combat log. Much larger concern than UI issues IMO. Both should have been in and ready pre-launch though.

    That said, neither is stopping me from playing.

    To be fair, the reason for no combat log is similar to the loss of color matching.

    They are working some new awesome combat log, but couldn't get it to function properly in time for launch. I'm sure you can find alink to this but I'm on my phone so I can't.

    as someone who played wow almost bare, bossmods and omen. i don't mind them not having this stuff in at launch.
    albeit once its added i will definitely tinker with my UI, but i will probably end up back to normal UI settings like always

    Yeah, I know, but still somewhat disappointing it is not in at launch. They really have no idea the kinds of issues they may be facing the months after launch and how long it will take to fix/balance things. Putting something as important as Combat log and UI Mod off until this time is a problem. Again, not gonna stop me from playing, just has me concerned about how they will handle development and adding of features in the future. While these "mistakes" are not game breaking or as big a deal as some make them, they are an issue of concern.

    I don't really care if I can't use addons while leveling as long as they allow them by the time I get to 50.

    Screenie of a drawn and sheathed lightsaber on a Marauder;

    Regarding the UI, James Ohlen recently made a statement about that;

    I know there's been some talk about [user interface customization] amongst our fans and is something that they're very passionate about. That's another thing that we have a team working on, to players a lot more power to essentially adjust their UI so they can move UI elements around, they can change the size or the alignment of it, and essentially customize how they get to play the game.

    Addons are coming soon after launch according to bw.

    James ohlen also Judy said in an interview they have a team thats working solely on redoing ui system to make it highly customizable

    Thanks for the clarification on how the lightsaber graphics work. Good to know it works the way it should.

    The UI situation on the other hand is a major problem. What in the world are they thinking? Releasing an ancient 8 year old UI? I would seriously postpone the release over something like this. I don't want to play WoW 1.0...

    I am seriously upset about this.

    A) Yeah UI can use more customization but it is not really any worse then then first few days after a major WoW patch that breaks the UI addons.

    B) There marketing has been a holiday launch, if they had come out last month and said "Sorry won't be ready for Christmas because we want our UI to do everything WoWs addons do" they would have taken a massive hit in sales numbers from parents not buying it for their kids for the holiday, and since it is already the 20th there was no room to push it back anymore from a marketing standpoint.

    C) Yes they should have made addon compatibility a lot earlier so that people could have been working on modding the UI during beta for launch rather then having to wait for the ability to make addons and am kind of annoyed at that, but yet again thats what you get for marketing holiday sales and then being so far behind that you don't even release the NDA until barley a month before release.

    I don't require an overload of customization with my UI, but you really need to be able to see all your buttons on screen at all times. This is so important. Even Rift had that functionality.

    I am in shock here. I don't think I can play the game until something is done about it. I had my hopes up really high for this game. I guess I'll check back later...

    I don't mind using the standard UI while leveling up, but I really hope that we have an UI mod shortly after new years. I just suck at raiding without my UI the way I am used to.
