    How is SWTOR holding up?

I have mixed signals about popularity of SWTOR from people I know. One person who works at a gaming store said that all the collector's editions got sold out quickly, on the other hand I keep asking lots of people about whether they gonna play SWTOR and they are like "what is that?" Is SWTOR initial popularity above Bioware's expecations, on par or below?

    I still think it's awesome.

It appears that close to 3 million people pre-ordered, so it is extremely popular.

SWTOR is quite popular, but as it is an MMO, the audience is limited compared to those who would play a more mainstream game such as console games.

About 3/4 of the servers are listed at Very Heavy / Full, so it is quite popular so far. Being that this is the first week of release this will be the biggest spike and I am sure it will die down, just like all other MMO's released.

The one issue I can someone see is that the server I am on is quite heavily Empire based, so although there are 100 + people in each area on the Republic side it can sometimes feel that there aren't many people around, but at the same time people are either rushing to get to 50 (no idea why) or taking their time so the mid levels are a little sparse most likely due to that as well.

I've been playing SW:TOR since beta, and I still love it. I've leveled an Imperial Agent passed level 10 on three separate occasions, and also a Sith Warrior to level 20. The only negative part if the game that I've seen so far is the constant walking from place to place. At 14 you get sprint though, which makes it much more tolerable.

There are also people out in the world doing quests and etc., which is a huge aspect for me. I just like seeing the world populated by players. :P

    - 30% Traveling
    - 30% Fighting mobs to get somewhere (grinding)
    - 30% Doing quests that lead nowhere or are unrelated to the main story. (My lord we need you to go and kill these people to collect these things then use these things on those things)
    - 10% Storyline quests and cutscenes. (This is the part most like everything in KOTOR).

I will be cancelling my subscription the minute I hit 50.

It is not holding up as well as I hoped. I was eagerly logging in at first, but now I am back on forums and really do not have much of a desire to play anymore.

Maybe I do not appreciate it as much as others because I do not have a super computer to play it on.

    * enjoying myself much more again out of Tatooine and on Alderaan. Seems zones have a very big impact on both my enjoyment and my performance.

    You keep using that word.

I do not think it means what you think it means.

So far it's been really good. I'm just hoping with the early access over today that the majority of general chat trolls won't be around because they were getting pretty ridiculous.

so you don't like MMOs. no problem, there's plenty of consoles/games for people like you.

This has slowly become my attitude. I had a blast at early levels, but the enjoyment factor is not really going up as I level up. Also, the amount of downtime is just absurd. I really do feel like I am traveling 50% of the time.

I hate to say it, but I think all of my excitement in TOR was just trying to find another game that I loved as much as I loved playing WoW when I first started. Perhaps it is just MMO burnout.

    * Again, I think Tatooine was bumming me out. I had unreasonable hopes and I do not think the whole "newness" of MMOs can ever be replicated.

If you like MMOs you will love TOR.

Good, one less person in the community. Every mmo is a level grind and if you don't like it than don't play them. All this post tells me is that there is one less person to bring the community down and one less person I have to worry about in queue to play the game. Have fun playing wow and any future mmo that follows this same exact mold.
Thank You Shyama for the sig again!!

I love it to bits so far, it gives me that vanilla feeling and a sense of freshness due to it being set in a different theme than WoW (high/wannabe-high fantasy). It has a mixture of sci-fi and fantasy elements and it is of course Star Wars, which I enjoy greatly and that in itself gives it a vast popularity on a scale most MMO's never really had when it launched in the past. So yes, fairly popular.

But Star Wars is not for everyone. Just like how some people didn't enjoy WoW. It is a matter of taste and a matter of trying a new MMO. I did not skip Rift because Rift is a bad game, for instance but because it felt too similar to every other MMO I had tried. There's a large enough community from launch though, so by no means is it unpopular. It is the most successfull MMO launch to date, I think. In terms of sheer numbers. So to call it mediocre would be silly.
There is common sense and ignorance. Choose one and accept the consequences.

Well, there are queues in a lot of servers, and while i play i see other players all the time, i havent been 15 seconds without seeing anothe rplayer in the game.

I would say that yes, its pretty popular.

The people you keep asking aren't gamers.

For me, it's perfect in almost every way.

Also, the servers are more stable than wow's are at the moment. It has to be seen to be believed. (And I'm on the most populated French server.)

Others may like the cutscenes but I find them annoying. I usually listen to music over game sounds or hang out in vent but now I have some NPC yaking at me something I could have read in half the time. Plus the attempt at different answers doesn't seem to make much of a difference, I suspect most your answers lead you to the same result.

To sum things up: Some people that like mmos like swtor while others are discovering that wow just burned them out and they dont actually like mmos.

If you like the idea of a single-player bioware rpg mixed with the basic format of an mmo you will like swtor.

Was in the full-time beta for 5 months. I'm still playing. My Sith Warrior is about to ding 50 and then while I wait for more 50s to run high level content I'll be leveling up a Bounty Hunter.
