I just had a thought. Assuming societal condemnation of gay men is an effective deterrent to homosexual behavior between males (not something I believe, but some do.) Wouldn't it make more sense as a generic straight "manly man", to accept and even encourage male homosexual behavior and to condemn female homosexual behavior? This would lower the amount of men looking for female sexual partners and increase the amount of females looking for male sexual partners. Most "manly men" seem to apply the opposite behavior. Highly inefficient, given that assumption, and assuming all the "manly men" want is sex with women.
