Level 1s with obscene quantities of epic gems.

I've noticed lately a load of low level characters selling huge numbers of queen's garnets at very low prices and I have taken advantage of this to make gold myself by buying lots of these gems and then cutting and selling them at about 100% profit.

For example yesterday I bought 40 queen's garnets for a total price of 50k (1250g each) I then put them on ah and sell them for about 2500g each.

It's a nice gold maker but I wonder how these people get so many of these gems to sell in the 1st place. It surely has to be something dodgy.

    A typical message from trade:
    [14:05:57] [2] [.......]: WTS [Queen's Garnet]X 100 140K [Queen's Garnet]X280 cher /w me

Am I feeding account theft by buying these gems? Are they being obtained in a legitimate way by the seller? Is it blizzard introducing more gems to the market to bring the price down for people (incredibly unlikely I know)? Are these gems maybe obtained by some sort of game bug? Thoughts ?

You can't tell if they're legit or not, but it's not hard to buy stuff on your main (or put all your gold on your level 1) and to use it as a bank/selling account so that you don't make your main look bad in some situations.

Who knows? My only educated guess is that it's a fallen guild's GM selling the remains. Coming by a lot of dying guilds lately. :<

The best thing is to report to a GM to check on this players.

Almost everything that I bulk buy / resell I do from a low level char, it's just easier in terms of bag / bank space. Most people I know that mass sell take this approach as well.

There are 3 or 4 ways to dupe items. This can be done with Queens Garnet and Vial of the Sands. Lets hope the exploit doesnt leak to alot of people as it can ruin server economies

such great amounts of red epic gems (and essences of destruction as well) ususally can't be obtained that quickly so fast. i remember seeing lvl 1's who barely spoke english like 1 or 2 IDs after patch release. there's no way a raid could get more than 10 of those, and they sold stacks.

i can only see 2 possibilities:
    - they use some exploit
    - they hack accs, loot the stuff, then transfer the chars to some other server (maybe even using some stolen credit card data) and sell it. the gold then is sold on gold seller platforms

one thing is clear, they're no regular players, as they don't speak the server language. they have some big business going on.

bank characters dont typically blow out gems, they would sell them for a reasonable price.

guilds do not get gems... the members get them. there is really no way to have aquired hundreds of gems through legit means other than to buy them and resell them, but that doesnt work if your selling them for cheaper than they could be purchased.

Most likely duped or stolen. If your holding them when/if blizz tries to fix it, they could disappear and your gold would be lost, if you already flipped them, not sure what blizz could do, probably nothing.

Im on a high pop server, have not seen anyone do anything like this so far.

I've seen this on my server too.

I have no doubt that there is some possibility to duplicate items, and that gold sellers are using this.

I don't think you are directly feeding account theft, but you are certainly distorting the economy.

Edit: I once bought a stack of Queen's Garnets from a seller such as this. (This was before I was convinced that this is an exploit.) I ticketed a GM if I would get into trouble if I resell the gems. I was told that they will investigate, but I should feel free to use them.

A friend contacted a gm and was told they are duplicated so buy at your own risk.. They are being sold over almost all realms hope that blizz stops them soon it's killing the market for them

I noticed this too. There is an absurd number of Queen's Garnets on the auction house compared to any other of the epic gems. There are stacks of those red gems. Stacks upon stacks of them on the auction house, all from the same seller. All the other epic gems are very few and far between, but not the reds...

I do believe there is some kind of duplication going on.

guy who sold me some at 6.4k each is now selling tons of the on ah for 5 and under if I try to post he just throws in more over.. it's almost every realm this is going on is Blizz going to just let them do this...the have completely taken ove the Queens' garnet sales on our realm Nothing any of us can do but hope they sell out...

They won't ever sell out, it's a dupe. 100% confirmed.
