GTN seems unfinished. Anyone else notice same thing?

    Cant sort armor by slot
    Cant sort mats by grade
Cant price by item gotta break out the calculator for stacks
Cant just search by name must go to sub categories
Cant sort by price per item
Cant sort companion gifts by type/grade
Cant sort ship improvements by type

Its like they had a guy work on it for like 30 mins on his day off the day before launch and said "OK have fun"

lol too true, i really dont think it was on their priority list with the push to get it released, anyhow doesnt bother me too much, im not an AH / GTN whore

Its not even funny how the GTN could pass quality control. The search function -if you can even call it a function- is retarded at best. It truly is something they seem to just forgot and chose to build something in a rush to make it before launch.

I love the game but yeah, the GTN is really shit.

You missed '-Can't search for Custom (Orange) item quality' from your list!

It's not perfect, that's what you are saying. It's OK though. You are just spoiled by AH ADDONS from WoW (WoW standard UI AH doesn't have all the features you want either).

    1. No armor type sorting - yeah that would be nice and eventually we will get it, but we can live without it for now, can't we?
    2. Sorting mats by grade - would be nice but not needed really - if you know the grade - you know the name of the mats you need, just type it in
    3. Would be nice - but not needed - you have the calculator.
    4. Selecting a category is much MUCH faster way of searching than waiting for ALL the items filtered by your search string. Also if you know the name - you know the category, you really do not want ALL the items containing your search string. Not to mention that it is also a technical decision - not design one. It's apparently less straining for server-client communication.
    5. That is really the same issue as p.3 - no need to pad the list.
    6. Same as p.1 and p.2
    7. Same as p.1

It would be nice to just be able to search for the item you're looking for without having to add any specifics - sometimes I'm unsure what profession the material I'm looking for belongs to.

There's a description on it that says what profession it belongs to. Like "Grade 6 Scavenged Metal".

I guess my car would still get me from point A to point B without AC, Doors, Radio, and Seats but they sure are nice to have.

Also none of the things I listed are related to WoW addons. You could always sort AH by armor slot and post items by price per item if u had a stack. WoW AH addons only let you auto undercut people or mass cancel auctions that had been undercut.

What bugs me the most is that, when you click the Tabs at the top (like "Rarity" or "Level"), the items don't get organized the way they should. If you organize by Rarity, you still find orange items scattered all over the place with no logic to it, and if you organize by Level... I can't even begin to explain the order that items appear in. I'm looking at the GTN right now, organized by Level, and it goes: two 49 purples, a 49 blue, two 49 purples, bunch of 50 greens, bunch of 47 greens, a 44 orange, bunch of 45 greens... how 'bout just organize by the freakin' number?

Yes it does. But that's not the point. It's SWTOR we're talking about and the GTN does NOT work properly even with the few options it has. Open it, select Armor, Heavy and click Search. Now click on the Level to sort them asc or desc. See how it puts lvl49 on top, before lvl 50.
Plus, the most ridiculous and retarded thing - you cannot just open it and type the word in the search bar without selecting item/grade/lvl...etc. Technical decision indeed, but how ? Well, if you put all the items in one database, you can just type a word and it will query the server (database) getting you all the items matching your word. Depending on the size of the database, it might take some time.
What they must have done, is spreading the items into several databases, so when you search for an item, you must first select the database containing that item, then imput the word (description). It's faster but not very convenient for the majority of people.
Most of the players would rather wait a few seconds (for the result) when searching for an item, then spending that time (and maybe more) selectings the fields (databases) they think it might contain the item they're looking for.
But if you optimize the search parameters (queries) properly, it doesn't take more than a few seconds to pull out the results when all the items are in the same database. (somethings that Blizzard has it working quite well)

I stopped playing WoW months ago and I really love playing SWTOR, but I'm not blind. Hope they fix stuff fast, otherwise, many players will go away from it, especially on low populated servers. And not because the game isn't nice but because it's too much of a hassle. When the bad aspects outweight the good ones...ouch.

It's done by price with a level cap if you search that way and it totally blows. Have no fear though, a new one is coming.

I honestly don't believe it was meant to go live in it's current form. Everything about it says place holder to me. I really think this is another aspect of the game that likely got rushed.
And I would guess the rush of the game falls on EA pushing for a holiday release before D3 and such.

I still love the game and plan on playing for a while but I have noticed plenty of things that make me believe they rushed release a bit.

You can't filter orange items directly, but if you select "[Blue] - Rare/Prototype" as your quality level, orange customizable gear will show in the results if there's any available. The game considers them to be Rare quality, between Uncommon/green and Epic/purple. Try it.

For what it's worth, you can put away the calculator. If you mouse over the buy button it does break down the cost per item.

I think BioWare completely misunderstood just how eager people are about their economies. I know right at launch there were official threads where they promised sweeping changes in future updates.

Expect this does not work for all mats, such as some fabrics. The tooltip as you describe is underworld, the GTN has it under diplomacy.

The GTN is useable after you use it for awhile, but it is by no means really a well designed first user friendly setup.
Really all I want is to be able to exceed the 50 at a time limit of postings, but I like to "play" AHs in game.

All of the in game item filters are Shiite! the "Usable" filter does absolutely nothing, but I would guess that at the time of release BW had bigger fish to fry when is comes to how things work! In time they will refine the GTN just like Blizz has improved the AH in WoW multiple times since I began playing WoW! Just be patient and deal w/ the train wreck that is the GTN!

Agreed, I can't stand the GTN in it's present form. I would love to be able to just shift-click an item and see if anything else is there on the network for it. I use the GTN every day to sell stuff I don't need and pick up something I may need so I REALLY hope they make this a bit more user-friendly soon.

    1) that's just using the wrong variable. basically, what BW does is give every item an arbitrary itemlevel, like WoW does. when you sort on level, you don't sort on required level, but on itemlevel.

    2) that's just bad design and bad practices. the first thing ANY database designer learns is controlling your entities (different tables in a database with meaningful data). it's okay to make separate tables for, say, mounts and pets, because they have not that much in common. it's not okay, however, to make separate tables for every speed type of mount in the game. similarly, it's not okay to make separate tables for each type of item. that has multiple disadvantages:
    A) it increases the overhead for entering new data, considering you need to switch often.
    B) it greatly increases the amount of metadata in the database, inflating the size too much.
    C) it means that if you have to add an extra category of items, you need to add an extra database. so it's not easily expandable.

    3) it's not even that hard. just put an index on the name field. it's litterally 2 lines of code.
