Hmm wierd my friend would always call me her best mate. she is from australia. I guess its used in many ways. I believe she is from sydney.

It was mainly a joke, but the word mate has a very broad definition here in Melbourne. You could call pretty much anyone "mate" without them batting an eye, provided you used the word in the right context. It's kind of like the word buddy in that sense.

I've got some huge plans for the anniversary cake but we'll see what I can actually do.
Probably the same cake I've linked in the last 2 weeks, (chocolate one), potentially baking 4 small muffins on top of it, printing out pony pics and making silhouettes out of them, putting it on the cake and toss some powdered sugar on it so I'd have ponies on the cake.

I guess it might be similar to the word Cabron in spanish. Where I come from using that word is to insult a guy. Where my wife comes from its just used as a friendly gesture XD.
