And how is that any different from usual pubs we played before? I don't see any difference. You know why? Because you face exactly the same pool of players.

MMR will get better in time, but 2 things should happen before that:
1. player base should become like x10 bigger,
2. there should be some reward for playing better - right now volvo only rewards playing more.

Each 1000 rating gives you a fancier hat? And if you drop below the rating you can't use the hat?

The joke is hats have been an internet Thing for many years. There's some older RPG (Ultima, Everquest, Runescape, I forget which) where the entire currency is hat-based.

Got raped by a meepo with nearly 4000 games, when the highest on our team was about 1000ish, with most being much less than that, our lowest around 320.

On are a related note to meepo is there any advice anybody can give on pulling of his poof combos, particularly the blink dagger poof thing.
Simply tabbing through the meepos in a fight a double tapping the poof never seems quick enough, although maybe I just need to work on my muscle memory.

what does number of games have to do with how good someone is

I realise that number of games isnt the biggest factor of skill but in my opninion theres no way in hell someone that played nearly 4000 games and has been in dota 2 for over 2 years (which im guessing is near the start, so probably played dota 1 before that) should be getting matched against people with about 350 games, with no prior experience in mobas, the difference in experience is just mindblowing. Its not like he has a shit win rate either 49% isnt bad. Also im only at 3k mmr and im the highest on my team, so its not like im great either.

Ive no idea if he was using macros but yeah he was blink poofing very well with nets flying all over the place, which i guess is to be expected when meepo is his most played hero and he has over a 50% win rate on him. The only way we killed him so many times was because we were a 5man on skype.

I think what made it worse was the slardar shit talking us about how shit we were when he was completely getting carried by some random meepo god.

I'd say player with 4k games and 49% winrate could be quite bad. Could be not. Could be hes at 4k MMR, which aint that much as well and stacked with very bad friends(Don't remember the blogpost if system tried to match avg. values or each players mmr). Could be hes using macros as some others said. Could be MM fucked up matching this game. Couldv'e been influenced by picks, or meepo having good day/ur players havign bad one.

TL;DR - MM is ok, shit games happen.

All putting arbitrary restrictions on matchmaking (closeness of games played) does is make queues take longer and make games more actually unfair. (As opposed to unfair in your head.)

Nothing. Had a Viper in a ranked AP game that picked Viper after I'd randomed Nyx and everyone said "yeah let's send Nyx mid." He ended up aggressively feeding enemy (picked) Pudge in mid, and Pudge snowballed from there. Dude has almost 300 more games played than I do, I don't understand how anyone with that many games can do so bad playing the literally easiest hero in the game.

Side note, is it just me or does every single person that picks Pudge end up being a total asshole? I swear every game I've had where someone picks Pudge (and that's nearly all of them lately), they turn out to be a massive douche that gets muted within 30 seconds of game start.

Oh I can do control groups, the thing is that I love playing Chen and Ench both of which I can play well with the creep combos. It's just with Meepo it's another ball game entirely.

Oh yeah and that guide was really helpful surprised I hadn't found it sooner.
