Would I see any fps increase in WoW cranking my i7 950 from 4Ghz to 4.2Ghz. If yes, how much do you recon? Getting kind of tired of 30 ish fps and my GPU is stuck at 500Mhz core for some reason(Guess I am waiting for some driver to fix that) so I can't really up my FPS by overclocking the GPU.

Strictly theoretically speaking, going from 4GHz to 4.2GHz is 5% faster (5% overclock). Wow should scale extremely well with processor speed so as much as 5% increase in minimum fps could be seen. That's not much though if you are rocking 30 fps now, it would mean 1.5 fps increase (31.5 fps).

It obviously ins't as straightforward as that but you get the scale of numbers we're talking about.

i7 950 @ 4ghz is already a near-1ghz increase compared to it's stock 3.06ghz, which is a great OC.

So you're getting 30 fps in raids it means that either MoP is still screwing-around with optimizations OR that the raids are genuinely that stressful and you need to drop down settings. Set Shadows to Fair and Particle Density to Medium/High, those are the main FPS-killers in 25-man raids on gaming rigs. You could also drop View Distance a bit. (Can't believe I'm still throwing around WoW lingo after having quit 6 months ago).

I had been looking up why MMO's in general make the framerates go to shit when there is a high density of players in one area...turns out one of the primary factors is Occlusion. When you render a game, Occlusion is responsible for ONLY rendering what you can visually see and not rendering stuff you can't see. With human players there is no occlusion since they're random and not stationary (if you were to try and force the processor to occlude players on-the-fly it would worsen framerates even further).
So even if you have your camera faced away from the 25-man raid happening behind your back, you'll still get the same shitty FPS because your processor is busy rendering every pixel of every player, their gear, and the spells they're using...even the players hidden behind other players and solid objects.
Basically the game renders EVERYTHING within a set radius regardless of whether you can see it or not, whether you're looking at it or not. At least that's how I figure WoW handles things.

If you look at a game like Crysis 2/BF3 the game runs far better due to a very well-defined set of Occlusion instructions sent to your processor. When you stare at a wall, in most cases the game will only render that wall and nothing behind it (or behind you) i.e. within your field of vision (FoV).

Oh well I know all of those factors and infact I did lower the draw distance and the shadows already. Guess my GPU is fucking me over getting stuck at 500Mhz. I really can't seem to find a way to fix it.

Re-boot your computer if it's an overclock that was unstable and the driver reset itself.
If you are watching a lot of youtube or similiar right click in a youtube movie and select settings. Then uncheck the "Enable hardware acceleration"-option.

Can anybody clarify if this is a Win8 Pro full version and not some locked version for tablets? I'm kind of baffled the price is only at 500kr.

It's the upgrade price. Have win7, upgrade for that cost.

Not sure whether I want to upgrade yet. Im not too keen on the removal of the start menu and the "metro" menu, I guess I'm just picking at straws right now.

As I've said before, unless you're specifically after a particular Win 8 feature (which Win 7 doesn't have) it is a complete waste of money to upgrade right now.

After playing around with it in VMWare I must say I kinda like the "apps", it's not something that will make me upgrade any time soon but it's pretty cool. And the removal of the start button is not much of an issue now that I've had time to play with it, however I'll likely stick to win7 for a long while.

Well the time has come to shift on my 460's (going single card)....thing is I can't decide weather I want a 660ti or a 670

If its worth doing, its worth overdoing :P, if you have the money go for the 670.

660 Ti is completely uninteresting in its pricerange. GTX 670 vs HD7970 non-GHz and GTX 660 vs HD7870 are the only points where nVidia is close to the opposition atm.


Also, inux, if you're going to buy the upgrade, I'd suggest you do so from Microsoft instead; significantly cheaper. 549 vs 299 SEK in Sweden.
