I guess Z77 would mean you possibly wouldn't need to flash your bios for the IB processor.

  2. #102
Yeah, but I think several of the Z68 boards come with IB support native, I could be wrong though.

Edit: The ASRock Z68 Extreme4 Gen3 manual mentions Ivy Bridge by name, so I'd assume it has native support, and that's the board I was considering.

Well, keep in mind there's still an NDA. I'm to understand there are more features, but it's hard to find anything substantial.

Very true... It seems that I may be counting my chickens before they hatch. I've just had very good luck unloading (an old monitor, old 1366 MoBo and old Thermaltake case) some of my old components, so I'm getting antsy for new stuff. =P

I did find this on ASRock's website: ASRock Z77 Extreme4.

As of right now, I plan on replacing my CPU, motherboard, RAM, both video cards, and power supply with:

    • Intel i5 3570K (assuming it ends up in the same position as the 2500K)
    • undetermined motherboard
    • undetermined cooler
    • 8GB Mushkin Blackline
    • undetermined video card
    • SeaSonic X650 (should have jumped on this while it was down to $99!)

PCIe 3.0 support is the big one

But boards like the Extreme3 (and above) have PCI 3.0 support too... You'd still need an IB chip, of course, but those boards advertise PCIe 3.0 slots.

Native PCIe 3.0 isn't supported by the Sandy Bridge chipsets last I recall. Which means that the PCIe 3.0 is probably powered by a third party, I'd think.

Gonna join the cool kids in the watercooling department by the way? Go for the Arc Mini and stuff it all up with rads.~

Haha, I'll be keeping my Arc Midi, but I am considering a closed loop for the CPU, we'll see. Here's a video of an Arc Midi with an H100:

I'm not confident enough in my abilities to build a custom loop setup... Maybe Deltrus will meet me halfway (somewhere in Indiana) and help me out? =P

Heh. Hey, I could do it, and this was my first loop. Nevermind that I went ahead and made things seemingly as difficult as possible for myself.

Ugh, I want Ivy Bridge news/benches! http://www.anandtech.com/show/5626/i...-core-i7-3770k just isn't doing it for me anymore.

NDA runs out on the 7th right?

  12. #112
I'm not sure, I don't recall seeing a specific date... If that's true, that sucks... 1 day before release? -.-"

  13. #113
Probably. I mean, most graphics card tend to have the NDA lifted on launch...

Apart from higher bandwith, what is the difference between PCI-e 2.1 and 3.0?
    i7-6700k 4.2GHz | Gigabyte GTX 980 | 16GB Kingston HyperX | Intel 750 Series SSD 400GB | Corsair H100i | Noctua IndustialPPC
    ASUS PB298Q 4K | 2x QNIX QH2710 | CM Storm Rapid w/ Reds | Zowie AM | Schiit Stack w/ Sennheiser HD8/Antlion Modmic

    Armory

That's about it I believe, increased data transfer speeds (in layman's terms) between the GPU and motherboard.

  16. #116
You get double the data transfer rate. An 8x PCI-E 3.0 slot can handle the same rate of data transfer as a 16x PCI-E 2.0 slot.

I know that posting about deals is usually frowned upon, but I figured it would okay in the chat thread... Just wanted to share that Newegg has some pretty sweet deals going on right now, especially if you plan on building/upgrading soon:

    • 10% off all ASRock motherboards
    • 120GB OCZ Vertex 3 for $139.99 after MIR
    • SeaSonic X750 for $109.99
    • Corsair 500R for $119.99
    • 2700K for $319.99 (not much of a discount here)
    • 120GB Intel 520 for $169.99
    • 256GB Crucial M4 for $299.99
    • Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit for $89.99
    • CM Hyper 212+ for $19.99 after MIR
    • Corsair A50 for $9.99 after MIR
    • Cooler Master Elite 430 for $29.99 after MIR
    • Battlefield 3 for $39.99

I'm very tempted to take advantage of that 10% off ASRock mobo deal - but I think I'm gonna hold out for Z77 boards, I'm also tempted to pick up the SeaSonix X750 - it's just so overkill for the build I plan on putting together.

I think I need to reapply the waterblock. 44 degrees celsius at idle seems too much, or should I be expecting something like that?

It seems a bit high, but it depends on the ambient temperature. Is it stock clocks?

If your ambient temperature is around 35 degrees celsius then it seems fairly accurate. If it's 30 or lower it's a bit high for idle temp. Try stressing it though and see what temperatures you reach.

Stock clocks. Also, we don't have very high temperatures here yet. Moreover, I discovered what the issue was... The pump either wasn't running at all, or was running too low to get anywhere. Swapping over from the new fan controller I bought to the little panel from the Level 10 GT fixed things...

I've no clue as to why...
