I guess Z77 would mean you possibly wouldn't need to flash your bios for the IB processor.

Yeah, but I think several of the Z68 boards come with IB support native, I could be wrong though.

Edit: The ASRock Z68 Extreme4 Gen3 manual mentions Ivy Bridge by name, so I'd assume it has native support, and that's the board I was considering.

Very true... It seems that I may be counting my chickens before they hatch. I've just had very good luck unloading (an old monitor, old 1366 MoBo and old Thermaltake case) some of my old components, so I'm getting antsy for new stuff. =P

I did find this on ASRock's website: ASRock Z77 Extreme4.

As of right now, I plan on replacing my CPU, motherboard, RAM, both video cards, and power supply with:

• Intel i5 3570K (assuming it ends up in the same position as the 2500K)
• undetermined motherboard
• undetermined cooler
• 8GB Mushkin Blackline
• undetermined video card
• SeaSonic X650 (should have jumped on this while it was down to $99!)

Err, noteworthynerd, Z68 has SRT too. But anyway, it looks like the chipset comes with the following:
Support for four USB 3.0 ports (not the ones on backpanel tho I guess)

...That's literally all I spot there that's different.

Native PCIe 3.0 isn't supported by the Sandy Bridge chipsets last I recall. Which means that the PCIe 3.0 is probably powered by a third party, I'd think.

Haha, I'll be keeping my Arc Midi, but I am considering a closed loop for the CPU, we'll see. Here's a video of an Arc Midi with an H100:



I'm not confident enough in my abilities to build a custom loop setup... Maybe Deltrus will meet me halfway (somewhere in Indiana) and help me out? =P

Apart from higher bandwith, what is the difference between PCI-e 2.1 and 3.0?

That's about it I believe, increased data transfer speeds (in layman's terms) between the GPU and motherboard.

You get double the data transfer rate. An 8x PCI-E 3.0 slot can handle the same rate of data transfer as a 16x PCI-E 2.0 slot.

I think I need to reapply the waterblock. 44 degrees celsius at idle seems too much, or should I be expecting something like that?

It seems a bit high, but it depends on the ambient temperature. Is it stock clocks?

If your ambient temperature is around 35 degrees celsius then it seems fairly accurate. If it's 30 or lower it's a bit high for idle temp. Try stressing it though and see what temperatures you reach.

Stock clocks. Also, we don't have very high temperatures here yet. Moreover, I discovered what the issue was... The pump either wasn't running at all, or was running too low to get anywhere. Swapping over from the new fan controller I bought to the little panel from the Level 10 GT fixed things...

I've no clue as to why...
